Disney OK
Can anyone tell me anything about Disney, OK? A friend has 3+ acres to sell there a mile from a lake, just inquiring to see if there is any potential down there. I'm from WI and am not familiar with the area...

I have a place about 4 miles north of Disney.
If your friend has some acreage near Disney I think it is a good investment. Disney is just starting to grow into a bigger resort area. It is on the other side of the dam from Langley. Langley is really growing. Disney is a bit more rustic. Nice rolling hills and, of course, the lake itself. The spillway area has some intresting rock formations that people take all terrain vehicles on and really have a great time--although it is a bit to rough for an older guy like me. I just sit on my dock and watch the boats go by. There is a very nice state park in Disney. The lake is very deep and clear here. It is really prime recreational land. Lakeshore itself is expensive, but any acreage near the lake is also going to be more and more prime as an investment. Disney is still a quaint and rustic little town, but growth is on the way. You could get in on the ground floor here and watch it grow. You are also near Spavinaw--another nice recreational area.

Great photos!!
Thanks Synopsis for your new photos. This is Grand Lake in the northeastern corner of OK? It sure looks like a fun place. Living in an area like that would be like being on vacation every day. I'm wondering how the employment situation is in that area.
We're hoping to take a trip to OK this fall so I'm still soaking up all of the info I can from these threads. Thanks again

Yes bjb, it's situated in the Northeastern part of the state. Beautiful area. Fall would be a great time to go, lots of fall colors. I couldn't tell you about the employment; I'm sure it's doesn't offer what a large metropolitan area like Tulsa or OkC would offer. I would love to be able to live in that area myself. I envy you Kurt!

Hey, I just tried to up your reputation but was told I had to spread it around before giving it to you! You are just too popular! But I wanted to tell you that when you said you envied me it really hit home. You see, I can spend a little time there in the Summer but I am still working in Florida! But I do plan to retire to Oklahoma in about 2 years. But I am now more that ever bound and determined to get out of Florida soon--maybe sooner. Otherwise, I just may not get the chance to sit on the dock like I should! Thanks for reminding me of how beautiful it is there. And I do thank you for the photos, even though I cannot up your recommendation so to speak.
bjb: You get out there this Fall! It is just getting more popular and getting discovered big time. Don't ya delay, ya hear? God Bless.

Thanks Kurt for trying up my rep.. I was just being honest. I would love to have a place up there and retire, but unless I strike gold or something it'll never happen. Two years isn't very long but I'll bet you can't wait until you're there, sitting on the dock enjoying all the area has to offer. I wouldn't last very long in Florida; I'm more of a temperate climate person that likes four seasons or at least some semblance of four seasons. I couldn't take it up in Wisconsin though, even though it's a beautiful state it's just a tad cold for me.

Those pics are gorgeous!!! It really is so beautiful in Grove. I don't actually care for four seasons, but I've kept a bit of track of the climate in OK for a couple years now. Sorry, but you guys don't know what winter is.
I was totally amazed at the `10 inch snowfall that Grove had this past winter. Tell me that isn't normal because they're only supposed to have a few inches of snow a season.
On one of the pics, there is a bit of snow. Does the lake ever freeze over in the winter?
Kmack, we had the opportunity to spend just a bit of time in Grove last Oct. It's a very nice place and the scenery along Eastern OK is beautiful. I'm the type of person where my "moods" can have a lot to do with scenery and weather. I love tropical, but also like Eastern OK.

It never stays cold long enough for a large body of water like Grand Lake to freeze over, except maybe around the edges.. I remember when I was a kid, some of the small ponds and creeks would freeze over, sometimes so much that you could skate on the small ponds, but that was a rarity and generally not safe because the ice was hardly ever more than a inch or two thick. I can only recall that happening maybe two or three times in my life. I'd say that it's even rarer these days.
I think the area around Grove probably averages around 10-12 inches a year in snowfall. When I lived in Tulsa back in the 80s (from 82-85) I think it must have been one of the coldest and snowiest periods in Tulsa's history. It snowed and snowed and snowed the winter of 83 so much that the entire winter there was hardly ever a period when there wasn't snow on the ground. I preferred the cold when I was younger, but now, although I like a change of seasons, the milder more "southern" versions of winter are my favorite. I could never live in a subtropical environment with no change in seasons at all; I'd probably go crazy yearning for some kind of change in the environment.
