Moving to OK soon.....
I am moving to ok the end of september. It is a job related move, and I have to live somewhere in the Hinton,Hydro, Binger, Cogar area. I have 6 kids with 4 school age ranging from headstart to 6th grade. Any info on school systems, weather to expect, local attitudes(I'm native american and am moving from one of the most racist areas of SD but have heard form a few current co workers that OK is much better in this regard)Thanks in advance

Hello Jazz. Welcome to NDN country. I lived in Hinton for a short while, Binger is just north of Anadarko. In general, the race relations have come a long way since the late 60s. But there are still some people who cling on to their hatred.
I don't know about schools, but you really can't go wrong with those small school districts. They are all pretty much the same. I think in general, on average, (at least according to CDF) the schools in OK average around 23% Native enrollment, which pretty high. Of course some schools will be higher, and some less.
All in all, you will like it here. Lots of skins and lots of cultural events by local tribes. Especially in western OK. If you need more info, DM me.

That part of Oklahoma is losing population, so it must not be a very good place to be.

Well hopefullly that's more to do with the general trend of people leaving rural areas rather than something specific about the area. I myself prefer the country and don't need alot of "amenities" the 50 mile drive to OKC is less than the 75 miles I had to frive to a real town up here anyways...

LOL! OMG. Whatever, stillwater.
I love living in a rural area. Wasn't it stillwater that said he would never live in the country because he doesn't want his car to get dirty??
A lot of young'ns move to town, but there are people who prefer small towns and rural life over big towns like OKC. It's just a personal preference and I am one of those people.
Of course, I did my city livin' when I was young and OKC cannot compare to Los Angeles. Loved it, but now I prefer to be out in the country. I've only been around Binger and Hinton. Don't know much about Cogar or Hydro. Hinton has a private prison and now a casino. And Hinton would put you about 10 miles from I-40. Binger is very small, but it is just a stone's throw from Dodge (aka Anadarko).

thanks for the input. basicly I have to live in the boundaries of the towns I listed, somwhere in that area. Anardarko, is out of range as is Weatherford. It sounds like Hinton has the best schools out of the bunch.

Weather-summer time is hot. The rest of the year you never know. I'm kind of kidding but not really.
I don't know what extra curricular activities your kids are into but I suggest you get them into something. If you are interested in agriculture, stick them in 4-H or FFA. Those towns all have good ag programs. I want to be honest with you that a lot of small towns in OK have a meth problem and the area you're talking about is no exception. So, that's why I advise you to keep your kids busy with other stuff. I don't think it's a reason not to move there, just something to be aware of.
Hinton has a great rodeo every year.
