I find this similar to the way jay Leno does his "Jay Walking" where he asks fairly basic questions and gets really absurd answers. I am quite sure that he doesn't get the humorous answers from the first three people he talks to. It probably will take several hours to find just the right group to respond in a way that will increase his ratings. Branding an entire group of people based on the response of just a few is almost always misrepresentative. It is like saying because Miss South Carolina has no clue how to address issues such as a lack of geographic knowledge that all Miss America Pageant contestants are equally uneducated......or that all South Carolinians are equally an embarrassment.........actually, after Joe Wilson and their absentee governor, that might be true, so never mind the last example..........

OTOH, look at some of the popular misconceptions about Oklahoma! The general public can be pretty stupid IMO.

I had a guy in prison once tell me that he had escaped from a halfway house. Went to TX and got caught. I asked him how he got caught and said he dialed 911 by accident from his motel room. Then he realized his mistake and hung up the phone. So the police showed up at his room.

I think the "teenager stupid" factor has not come into discussion. Sometimes Bif, Troy, and Lumpy just answer the most obvious question with a wrong answer to be stupid.

Kids nowadays are not stupid when it comes to money.[/quote]

Especially when some goober doing a "Survey" calls them on the telephone!!

I've been known to tell those "phone survey" types a few whoppers myself!

It's a shame they didn't have that link listed when the article was originally posted. It really does change everything...

And I am not a troll...

I am a Troll Doll... with pretty purple hair. Big difference. *hmmfff*

Well, all these additional cmments have really raised the level of usefulness of this post. NOT.

I am still at a loss as to why this was posted in the first place. Perhaps the OP can explain?

I took the test, and only got 2 wrong out of 10. And the only reason I knew the 8 questions right, is because of the American Indian Movement activists days from yesteryear talking about the US Govt. and all.

Otherwise, I would not have known about half the questions.

44. Can you name thirteen original states?

Here is a test with 100 questions. Sample INS Citizenship Questions

Answer to Q44:
Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Rhode Island, and Maryland.

.
You know what? The only reason I considered becoming a citizen was to vote for Hilary.

But now that the election came out favorably, as long as there are many people who cannot read or write, including in their own language, and all they have to do is put an "x" on a piece of paper in order to become a citizen I, as a contributing member of society am not going to go through all that nonsense.

That being said, I'm surprised a conservative think tank would publish survey results like these. I'm about as conservative as they come and I don't want to give anyone fuel for the fire against conservatives but, let's think about this.

Oklahoma is possibly the most conservative state. Why then, would you want everyone to think that Oklahomans know nothing about civics and government? Hmmmm not too dang smart if you ask me.
Nope. Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Utah and Missouri are more conservative, based on religious colonies, predominant religions by county and voting habits on local issues. Anytime I met someone from Missouri who attended SNU, they were typically conservative in the likes if which isn't common to even Oklahoma.

How about the insane number of televangelists that occupy Texas? Or the number of religious cults here? Or how about the old-fashioned religious city of Newton, KS that is twice as religious as Bethany, OK. How about the large number of bible camps in Colorado Springs? Lest we forget Utah?

We need to stop declaring Oklahoma the most conservative state in the country based on a national election on one politician. It is getting old.

And this lack of civics knowledge is a national problem. Heck, not even Obama knew how many states were in America. 52? Seriously?

I will not allow my children to 'get by' with getting A's on school curriculum, which is less than the bare essentials of education children should receive. I will make sure my children are not only educated, but wise and accurate, sharp and articulate and eloquent. I will make it my life's mission to make sure my children enter the real world aware and with open eyes.
