Does anyone have a winter prediction?
Just curious as to how everyone feels about our upcoming winter. We've had a very mild summer and that usually starts a pretty good argument at the family reunions. Lots of prediction methods out there so lets hear them.

Mild Summer=Mild Winter.
It always seems like the extremes go both ways.
Ones thing for sure it that it is BEAUTIFUL right now. If this holds up until November, yaay!!

Never, I tend to agree with you. It is gorgeous!!!!!!! I want to get through football and softball seasons before it decides to change on us.
My Cherokee aunt and uncle are predicting a nasty winter. My Irish grandpa says wet and mild. And my 90 year old Texan grandma says check the "seeds". And the weathermen don't have a clue. Lol.

Has anyone opened up a persimmon seed to get the weather prediction for this year?

Husband did that last year. He says it's a bit early and he hasn't seen any on the trees yet.
Farmer's Almanac says much wetter AND colder. I think it may be right, my yard squirrels have been packing on weight really FAST this year... they went from sleek and slender a few weeks ago to FAT and fluffy this week.

I never thought about the squirrels but they are fat and stocking up. I have 5 or 6 that have always lived in my front yard and they have been acting really strange. They started stocking up in July!
I also haven't seen a persimmon once this year. My husband says he's going to look in a minute but he hasnt seen any either.

Hi LR,
When I was a child , we had a neighbour that was Pennsylvania Dutch "I called him Grandpa" and just before the blizzard of "77" he predicted the the storm. He said that the cows & horses fur was extra thick, the birds were building larger nests than usual and the worms seem to have gone deeper into the ground. My dad said the they were ole-wives tails, then "BAM!" the storm nailed us. Grandpa was a wise old man, wath the cridders .

The last time we had the ice storms move through I remember the summer being stifling. We watch for them every year now. Being without food and power with three kids for 2 weeks (unprepared) stinks. I'm just a little wary now.

NOAA thinks the winter will be milder because of a mild El Nino.
There are actually two Farmer's Almanacs and their predictions are opposite of each other.
My own prediction is that OK will have a very mild and short winter.
I remember a few years ago when we had a chilly summer. (up here) I feared what winter would bring, but it was almost tolerable and that's good for us.
