The law is NOT going into effect on Nov 1st. A judge has blocked it.

Another activist judge.

Shouldn't Republicans stand for keeping the govt out of personal medical decisions? Oh thats right, the party got hijacked by religious zealots.

I'm with ya on both points.

Bottom Line: Reckless behavior (<------accounts for the vast majority of abortions) should never result in the termination of life.

agreed.

It seems like more and more that we treat pregnancy as just a side effect of having sex.

Without abortions people would be "punished" for their reckless behavior, its very sad that alot of people think that way.

The ones being punished are the innocent children who are born into a situation with parents who are not equipped to raise them.

And what a family tragedy it still is if a married couple, instead, goes thru with the pregnancy and gives the baby up for adoption. Then if they decide they can keep future children they got to tell them they got a sibling out there somewhere, but don't know where it is. This is one reason why teaching birth control should be taught in Oklahoma high schools, if it already isn't.

OH my!!! Are you serious, MK? If so, I'm sorry to hear that.

I've kind of stayed out of this discussion because I'm not firmly set one way or the other. Abortion isn't cool, but I really don't know when life starts so....

Besides, my own state has our problems struggling with this same thing. Yea, we're the ones who have to keep voting on whether it should stay or go. Our problem is that we're not a rich enough state to drag it way to the Supreme Court and I don't want to see other social problems dropped just to pay for this one fight. Maybe if other states would join us, it'd be different, but it's just basically been moral support and that doesn't go very far in the courts. So it's been voted down three times, I believe.

But anyway, news travels fast. My own newspaper has an article out of OKC in today's edition. There's one thing that really caught my attention and it may even be in the same article already posted~

"Legal challenges to the laws are in the early stages, but observers say the trajectory of cases could mirror that of the partial-birth abortion debate, which went through Nebraska courts and was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court before Congress made it a federal law that was upheld in 2007."

One state going it alone is going to have quite a battle on their hands. Maybe it's time that the people who feel strongly about ending abortion cross state lines and band together. Just a thought since I'm not strongly for abortion nor strongly against it.

Why people want to go back to the back room coat hanger abortion is beyond me. It is so much better to have such things, if they are going to happen, in a hospital where proper care can be given.

Making abortion illegal or difficult isn't going to stop it any more than making drugs illegal will stop drug abuse. All it will do is drive it underground. And when you do that you lose the ability to regulate the sanitation, the practitioner, the environment, and you lose the ability to deal with it effectively through counseling and social assistance.

Making abortion illegal will make abortions increase in number, as no one will tell anyone about it, and it will cripple or kill far more young women......in fact I predict that should it become totally illegal that abortion complications will kill or maim more women under 30 than any other cause.

What the Christian community needs to do is offer young women assistence, hope, and support.......provide a viable alternative to abortion and you will put the clinics out of business. Make it go underground and you will put the mafia and organized crime into the business......and they will get rich killing fetuses.........

Next they'll be wanting those with STDs to fill out a survey and you'll have to fill out a survey to buy contraception.
