Default Help in choosing a retirement city

I am looking to buy a small house with 10 - 40 acres to retire. I like Oklahoma because it is not far from family and the cost of living is very reasonable. I have read many posts for months and am familiar with the weather and tornado's and such.

My criteria would be:

I am looking for a conservative town with Christian churches. Some of my favorite pastors are - John McArthur, Greg Luarie and Chuck Swindol.

I want to find an area with green rolling hills but not necessarily a lot of trees. I love agricultural land with alf alfa, soy and corn.

I would like to have a few streams nearby for fishing.

My criteria is not much, but it seems like everyone pushes the Eastern part of the state. Are there any areas like this in the Western part of the state?

Any information on some cities that might match this and maybe some photos of the land would be much appreciated.

The Stillwater area would be fine unless a bunch of people demonstrating for peace and against war on the courthouse lawn every Wednesday strikes you as too non conservative acting for an Oklahoma town. Check out the last page of the Fall Foilage thread for a picture of one of the most wooded and hilly parts of Stillwater.

I think the land for the most part gets too flat, dry and hot west of I-35, though you might like the exceptional area between Lawton and Altus for its rocky hills, but not sure if they would be green enough for you, and the mesquite trees. That area is one of the most different looking parts of Oklahoma.

Rand McNally named Grove and the Grand Lake area the top retirement place in the country a couple years ago! It's got everything you listed and then some, plus a new hospital being built in Grove.

I looked up some pictures of Osage County. That is exactly the type of country I am looking for. I love the green open rolling hills.

What are the real estate costs in that area? If anyone would know a trustworthy Realtor in this area, I would appreciate a recommendation.

I am looking to travel to the area in a month or so to check it out. If someone could recommend a nice reasonable priced hotel in the area, that would be great.

Thanks

briansgi,

That is some beautiful scenery. I love the changing colors of the trees. That is something we do not get here in Huntington Beach, CA.

I am still looking for other suggestions. I really love the green open rolling hill country. I am taking my wife through Oklahoma in a couple months and want to try to hit all the locations that would meet my criteria for a retirement city. I am definitely going to go through Osage County. I also am going to go through Grove and on down to Hugo.

If anyone has any other suggestions of green open rolling hill country with a very conservative community, please let me know.

My goodness, what is a very conservative community be like in Oklahoma? Where's there's no bars and a lot of retired people? There's still some counties in Oklahoma that don't allow anything stronger than 3.2% beer to be sold.
