That generally doesn't fly here, heh.

And the laid-back - hyper thing is probably going to be all too true.
But that's a rural Oklahoma custom.

Very, very conservative. Shockingly so. Also very, very proud people. They generally won't hear a bad word about Oklahoma.

And yes, very slow pace. Everything is spread out - lots of open space.
Pretty good assessment here....although Okies are open enough to accept folks from all stripes.

Abe also needs to get ready for the Oklahoma twang. Just slightly different from a New York accent.

You know I didn't even really think about my accent, or lack thereof depending on how you think of it, differing from everyone else.

I don't know, its going to be different but I am excited.

And about the car issurance, oddly enough I went online to see what my rate would be, its actually higher then it would be in NY. Odd.

You are aware that its a whole 'nother lifestyle in Oklahoma dont you? Not to worry, I still have that slight 'east coast' accent and the people there still were very hospitably. Been there several times on many occasions. But lifestyle is much slower paced, so that might take some getting used to?

Everybody has an accent my friend, no matter where you're from.

I know a guy from Boston who's been here a few months and he described the difference as 'night and day'.

Good luck.

If you have an accent even remotely sounding "New Yawk" you aren't going to be able to pass as an OK native for a LONG time. But that's okay - it will be a good conversation starter.

Insurance here isn't all that low: the auto-theft rate here is on the high side. (A coworker's stolen truck actually turned up during a chop-shop bust.)

Homeowner's insurance here is very high, owing to the freaky weather.

Especially in July and August, but at least in Texas the heat starts up earlier and takes longer to leave than in Oklahoma, so it could be worse.

Freaky weather?

It's only hot in the summer.
