i always thought of The Grapes of Wrath, but also the country song, You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma. I thought of red soil and okies. I seldom thought of the play, "Oklahoma." Just being from CA that I what I thought of.

So, Reba McEntire`s from Oklahoma?
and That`s what an Oklahoma accent sounds like.

OMG, my husband loves Reba. Actually, she almost has more of a drawl then Oklahomans do. When we were there, I didn't think they talked too much different then we do up here. Remember the show "Rodney"? He was from Tulsa so that's what they sound like.

You do have some of the prettiest country side around. And you have some of the best recreations around also. Just got back from Waynoka and riding the sand dunes out there. And the one thing that I found out everytime, is how nice the people are. Had a emer. phone will at the park, and got the message. Love coming to OK.

Reba's accent is WAY overboard and is what you'll hear from some folks, but for the most part, especially up around Tulsa and OkC, there's not much of an accent.
I'm not sure, but I think the book and movie "Where the red fern grows" was set in jessaka's neck of the woods or somewhere east of there. The Wikipedia article just mentions the Ozarks but I recall in the movie that Stillwell or Sallisaw was mentioned a couple of times. The book and the movie are real tear jerkers.
There were alot of movies filmed in Tulsa in the 80s, such as The Outsiders, Tex, Rumble Fish and one of my favorites "UHF" with Weird Al Yankovic. If you haven't seen UHF it's very funny. Below is a link to a short clip from the movie. If you go to Youtube and type in "UHF" there are many, many, more..

You're right mk. It does depend on where you are from. And even then, it varies from person to person. My sister, who lives in the area where we grew up has a very "Reba" like accent while my brother hardly has one at all.
