Amanda:

All counties in the state are wet. They cannot ban the sale of beer, wine or liquor. What passes for dry in Oklahoma is what they call liquor by the drink. This is still decided by a county by county vote. They can ban liquor by the glass sales in restaurants and clubs and only allow low point beer sales. Only low point beer can be sold cold. all others, anything over 3.2% has to be sold at room temperature in stores.

What other counties are there in Oklahoma, other than Payne, where Stillwater is, where liquor by the drink, except for 3.2%, beer, is banned on Sunday? In Stillwater, city law doesn't even allow bars to open on SUNDAY, if they only want to sell mainly 3.2% beer. For a growing town, it sure isn't keeping up with Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Come to think of it, it's been too long since Payne County had a election selecting whether or not it would stay dry on liquor by the drink on Sunday or not.

In Stillwater on a Sunday, it can be embarrassing to forget while ordering in a restaurant that liquor by the drink on Sunday is banned. I bet it gives outside visitors a bad impression about Stillwater, who never know of the law to start with.

Does this mean that if they're outside city limits but still in Payne Co., they can? That would explain why Ell's and the Icehouse are open Sundays but the strip isn't.

I bet it does. I don't think I know where Ell's is and I've haven't been to the Icehouse in ages.

I've wondered about a bar called the Spider Dome, but never saw fit to go there. It's just unreal how it's located on a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere on E. 80th.(I think) It might be like if I went in there someone would say, "Who the hell are you? How did you find out about this place?"

That type of law is up to the municipality. Counties can decide to cut people off earlier than 2AM on beer sales and of course you have a small handful of counties that do not allow liquor by the drink. Compiling which cities do not allow bars to open on Sundays would take some time.

I do know for a fact that Enid is another city that does not allow bars to open on Sundays. Pretty much every city in both major metropolitan areas allow bars to open on Sundays.

Ell's is south of town but before Perkins on 177. The Spider Dome is great! But then, I love redneck dive bars. It's usually not crowded and therefore easy to play pool. Once I even brought my own beer in. LOL I don't recommend trying it but I felt gutsy that day.
