OK, I just got some info on it and wanted to share it with you.

They have no yet broken ground on the Peninsula, but hope to soon. They are waiting for two permits to come through, but they plan to have it running by next spring. The Shangri-la is still open and probably will be until the Peninsula is up and running. It looks like it's quite an up and coming little community, BUT SHHHHHH. We don't want everyone to know it yet.

So I'm confused a bit, as usual. Is the Shangri-la still open or is the Peninsula totally replacing it? We hadn't gone to Monkey Island, but I understand it's quite a nice place. We also heard it's pretty expensive there. Is that true?

AND what part of the Lake is the Grand Lake Casino on? Any idea what "cove" or what housing is near it? We went to Meghan's Cove when we were there because they had the cutest condo for sale there. Well, that was last Oct. and now they have more condos for sale there, but the asking price has increased by about 20,000 in that short of a time. Meghan's Cove was just the cutest place although we didn't actually go into it. It's a gated community, but SO cute.

What info do you have about the Peninsula motels? I've never heard of them, but it sounds like they're an elite hotel chain. Is that correct?

NMNita, we aren't world wide travelers or anything, BUT Grove is one of the nicest places we've ever seen. IMHO it's right up there with our own Black Hills or Florida's Seaworld area. You're right in giving that area a double look. IF we end up in OK, my guess is that it'd be in that area.
they are a very elite group of hotels, I don't think there are very many. The one in Hong Kong may have been the original and by far the nicest I have ever seen. As for world travelers, we are only that cause both our daughters work for airlines. Well actually the oldest one works for Sabre corp but it used to be part of American Airlines. She has been with them for almost 27 years, stated when she was a sophomore in college I think. Time does fly. We will see her next week while we are in Vegas. I intend to tell her and her hubby about Grove as well. Right now they are looking at Ar for retirement.

Lets keep all this about Grove secret until some of us have purchased homes so we can afford to buy before prices go crazy. lNMnita

Actually those hotels are also going to have residential units as well, and yes they are elite - probably only about 8 of them in the world and they're rated at four stars and above.

I take the residential part to mean that they are literally places people could buy. Gotta have some big bucks to live like that though; it counts me out! If I had the money to invest in an area around there, I would jump on it .. as in now .. property values are going to go up, up, up over the next decade.
Oh, sorry, I broke the code of silence.. <finger over mouth>SHHHH..

That's fascinating. I had never heard of them before, but I'm not that knowledgeable about things like that.

Yea, I saw that they were going to have apartments or condos there. Just from looking at it, I'm sure we'd be ruled out, too.

Saw everyones posts about Grove and since I live here thi=ought I would reply. Grove is a superior place to live in terms of friendly people it can't be beat. I work at the Grove Hospital and it is an Integris Hospital and there is a new hospital slated to be bulit. State of the art with superior physcian's which is one reason we opted to move here as well. We were planning on purchasing a second home but found that we would rather move and live here then where we had lived our entire lives and marriage of 27 years. Grove is very kid friendly, has excellent medical facilities and is growing. You can own your waterfront home and do own down to the water. We own a waterfront home and hope to sell it soon and purchase a bigger home as we planned on it being the two of us but now our youngest daughter is having a baby and she is going to live with us and our 1700 sq feet may be a littel small for a baby and us lol! We also live right across Sailboat bridge and have a wonderful view of the lake. My grandson loves to watch the Cherokee Queen (tourist boat) launch and come into port. There is a large casino several miles outside of the town but there are several casino's located all over this part of Oklahoma. The new one that is slated to be built is supposed to be on the water on the other side of the bridge and is supposed to have a hotel, restaraunt and more. It will also bring jobs to the area and the casino's offer great benefits and opportunities. The local law enforcement is wonderful. There is a 24 hour Wal-mart, a Rib Crib, Taco Bell, Sonic and several other chain restaraunts. The fishing is great and Bass Pro sponsors one of its huge fishing events here now. There is always something going on to do that is family oriented. Hmmm anything else you want to know just ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. Enjoy Grove!

Hunters, welcome to the forum!! I enjoyed reading your upbeat post about Grove. As you can probably tell, we loved our stay there even though it was only briefly. My DH would've been ready to come home and pack and move down there. I shook him back to reality with, "Well, we HAVE to find jobs."

So how far is the nearest casino from Grove? We had no idea that they were building a new casino right by Grove. When do they plan to have it open? It looks like Kurt has been right all along~it really is an up and coming area.

Also, how are they doing with the new resort? If I remember correctly, it's called the Peninsula, is that right? I actually spoke with the human resources lady for the present resort so I could find out how things were going, if they'd have job opportunities, etc. What a nice person!!! We talked about it for a few minutes, but ended up on the phone for about 15 min. just chit-chatting. She was originally from No. Dak.

So where had you lived before? It sounds so much like us. We've lived in this same area our entire lives. After you mentioned that you've been married for 27 years, it made me think that we are probably close to the same age. We're just a few years ahead of you in the marriage thing.

When did you first go to Grove and how did you hear about it? I know, so many questions.

Smile Howdy, Hunters. Can you tell us how the lake looks?

I echo Jammie about your great post. I will be out there on the 19th. Can't wait. I live way down on the south end, but get into Grove alot when I am there. How does the lake look? Was there any flooding? Keep us posted on new developments.

The hospital in Grove is one of the top-rated in Oklahoma.

I actually feel bad about The Peninsula and the condos and the things going up by the lake in Grove.

Yeah, Grove could use an upgrade and some entertainment. It's too rusty and old. There's not much to do.

But do we want fancy apartments and luxury hotels? I mean, right now there are some big houses for the rich in the lake, but Grove and the surrounding area is mostly a down-to-earth redneck place for working people to put their trailer, drink cheap beer and catch some good bass.

How about displacing them and having the rich dudes come over and buy million-dollar condos? C'mon! They can go to Miami or LA! They don't need Oklahoma.

I'm neither a redneck nor a socialite, but I think the Grand Lake o' the Cherokee's should stay REAL. Those high-rise condos and luxury hotel and the works in the middle of trailer-park land are just SO out of place.

I think.
