I understand that a 58 million dollar medical facility is to be built in Grove, Oklahoma, with ground breaking this December. This is in addition to the hospital they already have. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on this. It is certainly good news to us Baby Boomers approaching retirement. This in addition to the 500 million dollar resort complex planned for Monkey Island indicates that Grand Lake is becoming a premier resort-retirement center. I suggest people get in on the ground floor and get a lot or a house in the greater Grand Lake area--even over to Jay and Eucha/Spavinaw, Langley, Disney before prices go up.

Kurt, thanks for the info. That sounds wonderful!!! There are two places on our list of places to live and the Grove area is one of them. We just really liked it down there for some reason.

Is the resort complex going to be a new one or is it an upgrade to the one that's already there?

Jammie, we are now looking at Grove as well as outside Muskogee. It is amazing what we learn from these boards. NMnita

The big resort expansion at the tip of Monkey Island is part of the old Shangri La setup. It is called "The Peninsula" and you should be able to Google its website. Any Grand Lake site will get you there. It looks pretty impressive. The expansion of the airport near Ketchum is also going on. I was pleased to note more medical care coming in as I did not really care to drive to Miami and Tulsa just has too much traffic. Joplin is a little faraway. The only bigger city I really like in the area is Bartlesville--that too is a good drive.

Looks like Grove is really getting on the map! There is also a small medical center that just opened down by Langley on the southend of the Lake.

Does the hospital have anything to do with Integris? I was just wondering because I have been seeing quite a bit of those commercials lately. It seems that northeast Oklahoma could be the midwests Las Vegas with all the big casinos being built. Has anyone heard of the $200 million casino resort by the Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma border? It looks pretty cool too.

Keep talking, more and more information like this and we won't bother to look anywhere else.

Some pics of The Peninsula at Grand Lake. Is this "THE" Peninsula as in Peninsula Hotels? These are usually only located at the most premiere resorts in the world.. Wow.

wow, you are certainly correct about being located in nothing but premiere areas plus the hotels are the most elegant I have ever seen. Well I have only seen one, that was in Hong Kong, but they do have great reputations. NMnita

Here's what it will look like peeking out from the back porch of your new home on Grand Lake NMnita.

OHHHHHH!!! That's beautiful!!! Now if we can find a way to have the winters in Grove be just a bit warmer, we'll be on our way down there.

So I'm confused a bit, as usual. Is the Shangri-la still open or is the Peninsula totally replacing it? We hadn't gone to Monkey Island, but I understand it's quite a nice place. We also heard it's pretty expensive there. Is that true?

AND what part of the Lake is the Grand Lake Casino on? Any idea what "cove" or what housing is near it? We went to Meghan's Cove when we were there because they had the cutest condo for sale there. Well, that was last Oct. and now they have more condos for sale there, but the asking price has increased by about 20,000 in that short of a time. Meghan's Cove was just the cutest place although we didn't actually go into it. It's a gated community, but SO cute.

What info do you have about the Peninsula motels? I've never heard of them, but it sounds like they're an elite hotel chain. Is that correct?

NMNita, we aren't world wide travelers or anything, BUT Grove is one of the nicest places we've ever seen. IMHO it's right up there with our own Black Hills or Florida's Seaworld area. You're right in giving that area a double look. IF we end up in OK, my guess is that it'd be in that area.
