OSU has the safest campus of the Big XII conference. They are spending a LOT of money on new housing, freshmen are supposed to live on campus, and there is plenty of space for upperclassmen to live there too. My aunt lives at the Links, a cousin just moved out, they seemed to like it. But it's a college town--- there are apartments on every corner, and houses being built everywhere. Houses and small acreages are available nearby, and several small towns surround Stillwater.
It'll be a LOT greener than Arizona. Trees start budding in March or April, and most will have leaves until at least October. As mentioned before, there are distinct seasons, although lately Mother Nature has been playing switcharoo on us, giving us warm winters and rainy summers. April through June or July is basically considered tornado season, although they can (and do!) occur anytime. May 3rd, 1999 brought many tornados to the state, actually the largest tornados until this spring's Kansas disaster. Best place during a tornado is in a basement. Next best is a closet, bathroom, or small room in the middle of a building, groundfloor, with no windows. Often, apartment complexes have a storm shelter, or a plan for getting to one.
They just built a second Wal-Mart, actually, to service the growing population on the highway west of the bulk of the city, towards Interstate. Two lakes are within driving distance, one being home to the Stillwater Rifle and Pistol Club. Stillwater is a great town, I think, with much diversity and lots of potential. I'll also be there this fall, enjoying the city!
