Default Homeschoolers

Any homeschoolers in the Calvin, Atwood, Horntown, Gerty or Holdenville area. Now looking at a farm close to Calvin and would appreciate any homeschoolers responding, and also any others who could inform me about the general facts on these areas. Thanks in advance.

Hi Igloo

I live near Horntown. I don't think we have a lot of people who home school in this area. The Calvin area is nice. The Canadian River runs close by and the terrain is rolling hills with trees and rocks and areas of nicer bottom land that looks fertile. People are friendlier than other areas of Oklahoma IMO. People from other states buy land here for retirement and/or hunting.

No, my children are grown and out of school, and I never did homeschool.

Oklahoma is one of the easiest states in which to Home School. You are considered a private school in Oklahoma and there are no requirements for notification or testing there. The school system would like for you to inform them but you don't have to. Look up the HSLDA website for more information. They are a great resource and you can get a membership with them for $8.00 a month. If there is ever a problem in regards to the legal aspects of your homeschooling, they will defend you for free if you are a member. (On occasion, someone will call DHS or the police and say your kids aren't in school. So it is nice to have the backup from HSLDA. Oh, that is Home School Legal Defense Association.)
