Lived here 40+ years and have only seen two tornadoes and they didn't even touch the ground.
A lot of the tornado thing is hype, it would be terrible if you were to be hit by one of those monsters though! I have seen the aftermath more than once.

I lived near Russellville, in Danville (pop. around 1,000) for about a year in the early 80s. It was a beautiful area, but I had a hard time fitting in. It could have been that I was young though, and the area didn't have a lot of people my age. Generally, the people were very nice.

Guthrie Kid,
My sister and niece are coming this Friday, and I believe we are taking our camera and our shopping legs to Guthrie. Can't wait.

Bfritz: Let me correct myself, Oklahoma, there I believe I have it right now...
As for Tornado's tearing apart my home, I have a question or two, Is it covered by homeowner's Insurance? Don't you get at least a little warning?? Heck, the weather at least has to be bad, right?
Here Earthquakes are not covered unless you have a special policy,
You don't get any warning, and weather does'nt matter because everyday is nice. ( it's about the only thing left here that is nice)

Tornado damage is covered by the wind portion of homeowners insurance. The larger the tornado, the more warning you have because the TV stations have excellent radar and all kinds of technology to detect them. The smaller tornadoes are harder to predict so sometimes people are surprised. In a populated area you will hear the storm sirens if a tornado is expected. In the big tornado outbreak of 1999, my workplace closed early and I had time to drive home and spray my storm cellar with bug spray before the storm came. Lucky for me the nearest twister was 2 miles away.

oklahoma - general info
Oklahoma weather is rather unpredictible.
It varys from year to year but overall its hot more than cold.
usually its not too humid but this year with all the rain, it has been wierd and pretty humid.
I will say that i used to think that we had worse weather than the rest of the usa but now i would say that is not true. Most of the time when the rest of the usa has crappy weather, ours is rather nice.
We have alot of sunshine throughout the year, and it only rains usually in April/May. Sometimes in lieu of snow we get cold rain in Nov/Dec.
Feb is snow usually but only a few days.
Oklahoma a kewl place to live. Its cheap, its friendly, the air is clean, the food is inexpensive, as is the shopping is awsome..and housing is soooo affordable.
We are spoilt in comparison to other states, i watch hgtv and i am appaled by what people pay per sq foot for a shack...we live in houses like little palaces for next to nothing.
I wouldnt live anywhere else....
even if i could afford it.
Hopefully we dont have tons of folks moving this way, we like it unpopulated.

I like that~OK is a "kewl" place. Actually, it really is. I don't want to spam the boards with this and I've already mentioned it in my own state forum, BUT if anyone would like to see a tornado map, check out the "Hurricane" sub section on the Florida forum. It's right below the "Tampa" subforum. Yesterday Nirvana Guy posted a U.S. map and it shows the most dangerous tornado areas. I was surprised to see that northeastern OK really has about the same tornado odds that I have. I really thought it would be worse.
