If you are "into" weather, OK is one of the most interesting states in the country. You have it all...winters go from comfortable to cold, from dry to snow. Spring brings amazing storms. Summer brings a combo of dry and humid, can change from day to day, but either way hot. Fall you get a few storms, but is usually the best season. May not be a perfect climate, but for variety, not many places equal Oklahoma.

Would you consider this summer to be exceptionally cool compared to normal? Also, I realize it's "Green Country" so naturally it would normally see a lot of rain. But I don't remember seeing that it rained day after day before. (I watch the weather channel. ) Does it seem to be kind of a strange year?

Absolutely a strange early summer for Oklahoma! The constant rain is very unusual...the humidity has been high, but temps lower. Who can say? These things have a way of evening out...Wouldn't be surprised to see hot and dry in August after all this.

pw72,
you are so right about the weather here, and that is why I like it.
Jammie, Everyone says that we are getting more rain and normally our summer is 90 to 95 and then into the hundreds. It is suppose to warm up here this week and be 95 by next Friday. Maybe the rains are over, but even though it has rained these last few months, we only get them for one or two hours a day, which I love. I always wanted to live where it did this instead of some areas where I lived in California where it rained all day for several days at a time.
I came to Missouri when I was 16. I felt so grateful to my uncle and grandmother for bringing me to the Ozark Mountains since I had fallen in love with them in books when I was 12 or so. And we had the afternoon summer rains in August, and that is when I fell in love with those short rains.

Glad to hear it cause it was starting to seem like the Pacific Northwest.
But seriously though, when we were in Tulsa, it seemed to rain for two days straight. So that is actually unusual then?

Being a serious weather buff, I follow this pretty closely. As of now, August should be more "normal" as far as temperatures, and I think at least for awhile, the excessive amounts of rain have come to an end.
I'm concerned about the gulf coast coming under the gun for at least a couple of significant hurricanes this season... probably between mid August thru September. Historically, when they hit Texas, about half of the time, they rain themselves out over us or Arkansas.. with the pattern we're in this year, it would'nt suprise me at all that we get another major flooding event during that time frame due to the remnants of a hurricane.
Only time will tell.

Just to give a differing opinion!
The humidity in Ok can be bad. We have had 100% humidity. I was in Hawaii and people were complaining of the humidity, and to me it was nothing, almost not noticeably humid to me. Same for Jamaica and Caribean countries, to me the humidity here is worse, and when there is no wind, it's stiffling. We have had lots of rain, so it hasn't been too hot/humid here yet. But I was flying to Dallas with a young man leaving Fort Sill (Lawton, South/west Okla) and he was glad he was leaving because it was so hot here. I hated to laugh and tell him that it hadn't even gotten hot here yet, and he was from Miami, Florida. So he thought our high 80 temps were worse than Florida.
Just wanted you to know other thoughts. And if you ask my friends husband from California, he'll tell you it's more humid, making it hotter here than anywhere on earth! He sweats sooooo much. Tornados aren't too scarey you know when and where they are coming, so you can be safe.
Have a great time in Ok!

We are always having unusual weather in Ok. If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, just wait a while---Will Rogers said that. We can usually count on some hot dry days in July and August, but May June and September can be hot too. A/C is a must.

No, not if in the spring or fall. What is really unusual is for it to rain over two months straight.
