Well, that's my hope anyway.

Howdy yall. Long time lurker.
I grew up in Omaha. First 25 years of my life, from the mid 70s to the end of the 90s.

I was hoping (and have been for a very very very long time) to find pix of Omaha from the 50s thru the 70s, with a specific focus on downtown and the 72nd and Dodge areas. Of specific interest to me are businesses, movie palaces, restaurants, whathaveyou. However I will also take whatever anyone has. Even links to other sites are helpful.

I really just want to get a better focus on where I come from.

Anyhoo. Hope this works since Ive been trying in vain for years to find this kind of stuff and have largely had to make do with scraps. A postcard here, a phone book cover there.

Cheers!

This blog (My Blog) has a few entries on Omaha restaurants and a few classic pictures. It's not much, but it's the only one I know of that is readily available.

I believe the Durham Western Hertiage Museum has lots of photo archives that you can view, however I don't know if there is anyway to view them without physically visiting the museum.

Good luck!

You will be able to view quite a bit of photos at the website of the Douglas County Historical Archives.

The Douglas County Historical Society

They have much more stored that may not be on the website if you need anything and they would be able to make copies for you if you need them for any projects. You can email them if you are looking for anything more specific.
