Response to the original question....maybe his license expired the day before, and it was his turn to drive?

It wasn't the line for the driver's licenses. It was the line for licensing a car.

Having said that, he had a whole month to get himself to the DMV to license his personal vehicle. He didn't have to take a whole fire engine and 4 guys and park it right outside the door while he went inside to take care of personal business.

That's why I asked if there was a business reason for him to be there...because if not he is arrogantly wasting taxpayer money to do his private business with public equipment.

Maybe they stopped there on the way back from a call. As I pointed out earlier, all the DMVs are in close proximity to fire stations.

That may well be. It's still a waste of taxpayer dollars to leave the truck idling in a dmv parking lot.

I'd like to put the best spin on it that I can...but no matter how you spin it, it's a waste of tax dollars.

Diesel engines are very efficient when idling. The fuel used was probably minimal. It's hard to pass judgment without knowing the context of why the truck was idling.

If someone feels city resources are being wasted, they should document the facts and call the mayor's hotline or WOWT and have them launch a full investigation (suggesting WOWT was meant to be a joke).

Do you honestly think calling the mayor's hotline would do anything?

Most likely not, but it's worth a shot I guess.
