say, is the city staying paying for golf courses?

cause if they are I say:

end the paying for city golf courses aka (entertainment)

our tax dollars shouldnt be going towards people being entertained.

Me and you discussed this sometime ago and IIRC those golf courses actually made money for the city. Cut them out and you'll see raised taxes to pay for the loss in profit.

Some people find happiness in misery.

I think one thing should be done:

reign in the fire union/police union folks and also the omaha public school board
who think money grows on trees.

theyre reckless money grabbing has contributed to some of the defecit.

It's not the stadium, so don't even try going there.

Aren't we taxed enough? Other cities get by with less tax. I guess I shouldn't be surprised he wants to raise taxes to pay for things. Does he realise people may leave instead of pay?

How do you plan on reigning in the unions? They're already on several years without a contract and now they're in the 2nd round of negotiations. If the city can't find a compromise, it'll just end up in front of the CIR.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that it's by providing a product people are willing to pay for.

Not for the city they won't.

Given the state of our roads, snow removal and police cruiser fleets, I'd say the answer is a resounding "no".

I'd have to look at the numbers again, but I believe our tax rate is actually on the low end when compared to some comparable cities.

If someone really wants to go through the expense of moving just to avoid a tax increase, let em.

Um, maybe I'm slow but I don't see where he implied that the NCAA hates being around latinos. That statement is just plain ignorant considering some of the best college baseball teams in the country have a large number of latino players (see Miami). Wanting to move to an area that is more dense and has more to offer is not the same thing as moving away from South Omaha because of latinos.

Not to mention that downtown is a very ethnically diverse area in itself.

Nearly every city, state, and county in the country is in the same position as Omaha. Did they all build new baseball stadiums? Or could it be that the economy has been in the can the last three years?

Yes we've got to pay for our new toys, that just makes sense.

I suppose we could just cut taxes, cut all services and just sit in our house's praying for the rapture.

Or we could endure a modest tax increase to cover *ALL* the services that are helping make Omaha into one of the up and coming first class cities of the midwest.

I guess whichever...who cares.
