...tried doing a search but only found threads applicable to Council Bluffs and Iowa. I see traffic cameras throughout Omaha and was wondering how the Omaha Police Dept or Dept of Roads use them? For traffic violations? Safety measures?

Omaha at present has no "red light" cameras. The ones you see are either for automatic tripping of the lights (motion sensor, not a true camera) or are for general monitoring of traffic.

Harsh is right, there's no red light cameras those are sensors. If you want to see what a red light camera looks like try driving down Broadway in Council Bluffs. They are large boxes on poles that sit next to the lights on the side of the road.

Does Omaha have video cameras at intersections? The ones at 72nd and Pacific look like video cameras. I thought maybe they used them to watch the intersections for accidents to dispatch police. I know some cities have that.

Omaha dose have a network of cameras watching the interstate and some major intersections. BUT they are never used to write tickets. They are there just to keep an eye on things. If the ones at 72nd and pacific look like a small bird perched atop the traffic lights, it is just a sensor.

Ok, 72nd and Pacific must be actual cameras. I've seen the sensors that you talk about and these are not it. I was always very careful to follow the traffic laws there just in case, haha.

This is true. . People in Omaha run red lights like the world is coming to an end. Most people don't even realize it, because they think it's normal. Next time you are at a busy intersection count how many people go through the left arrow light after it's out or red. 3, 4? maybe 5.

3 is usually pretty average. I hate that crap! Unfortunately its not specific to Omaha or Nebraska, they do it down here in Florida too - it annoys the crap out of me. What is POSSIBLY so important you cant wait the 3 minutes for the light to change??

If you still don't believe that, speed up through a yellow light, as it turns red. Then you'll get a citation in the mail (whoever owns the vehicle), with 3 very good pictures of your violation.

That's right rezfreak & pheaton. No matter where you drive with a turn arrow, people follow like ants after it's turned red. I see it all over Florida. In Melbourne they're going to install red light cameras, they did test month to where they never issued any citations (maybe warnings). Even though some people knew it was a test, they still went through reds.
