I will be visiting the area for a few days in September and want to please ask what would be better.

I definitely want to get a great sense of Omaha and Omaha is my main purpose of my trip. Do you think it would be better to stay in Omaha or Council Bluffs? I am quite adventurous and like to walk around and do things but if it just isn't worth it at nighttime, i was thinking of staying at Ameristar in Council Bluffs (so i have a pool & things to do at night) and going into Omaha to explore during the day.

How is parking in Omaha??

What are your thoughts?? Thank you!!

Omaha.

Unless you just really need to hit the slots there is *NO* reason to go to Council Bluffs. Downtown Omaha will have plenty of things to entertain you at anytime of the day.

Isn't Concil Bluffs only a few minutes away though?

I would stay at one of the downtown hotels. Unless, like dsrich98 said, you want to hit the casino. If your purpose is to get a sense of the city, why even consider a hotel outside of the city and in another state!

It is, and a short car ride will get you into downtown without much fuss, but you can WALK to a lot of attractions in downtown Omaha if you choose a centrally located downtown hotel. That way you could use a taxi for a trip to the zoo or casinos, rather than having to rent a car for daily use to get to EVERYTHING. Joslyn, Durham, Heartland of America Park, the Old Market, Qwest Center, Bob Kerry Bridge, are in walking distance from most downtown hotels, but not within walking distance from Council Bluffs.

Very good choice. The Casino's are the best place to stay when looking for a Downtown area Hotel.

The view of DT Omaha is 100% better on the east side of the river.

Omaha rolls it's sidewalks up around 10:00 p.m.. If your going to be here on a Sunday or a major Holiday plan on the sidewalks to be rolled up around 4:00 p.m..

I would say stay in Omaha if I were you. You will be much closer to all the entertainment.

I just completed my last trip to Omaha in June. I spent 4 nights in a downtown hotel and my last night at the Council Bluffs Ameristar. Although the room at the Ameristar was perfectly fine, I much preferred staying within the downtown Omaha area. It is only a 3 minute walk to reach the Heartland of America park, and there are quite a few restaurants & bars within a 5 minute walking distance. A car was really not necessary unless you wanted to venture beyond downtown & the Old Market. When you are at the Ameristar, there is not much else in the area to do outside of the Casino unless you hop in your car and make the trip across the river. Also, quite a few of the hotels in the Old Market offer free shuttle service around downtown.

Good luck with your decision.
