I say yes considering it is time to merge city/county resources in Omaha

and have it be like Miami or Indianapolis, but I doubt it will happen in Omaha cause some power hungry empire-buliding types in Omaha

dont want to give up their power to help do what is best for Omaha

It wouldn't make sense without a City/County merger. Giving patrol responsibilities to the county will only shift costs to the county and that could put pressure on property taxes. Citizens of west Omaha would pay for the cost of patrolling one way or another.

Say what dude? Just like Omaha, Miami has their own city police department and Miami-Dade County has it's own separate police department as well.

Indianapolis PD, just like Denver PD, has complete law enforcement jurisdiction over the city and county with a small Sheriffs Department that is limited to running the jails, courts and process serving. Something like that is likely to happen when/if Omaha and Douglas County consolidate.

No.

DCSO is a fairly small department and and with their limited manpower and resources they simply aren't capable of taking over law enforcement duties for essentially half of Omaha. They have no aviation unit, they only acquired a SWAT team within the last 18 months or so, and all of their other specialized units aren't staffed up to the levels of dealing with the city. Anytime something remotely serious happened they would need to call OPD to come help.

Just to illustrate my point, take into consideration that on any given night, the Northeast Precinct (everything east of 42nd and north of Dodge) has more officers on duty than all of DCSO.

Like Jesse mentioned, it just shifts costs around and might look good on paper, but that's as far as it goes.

Douglas county services need to merge with Omaha's. It's stupid to have to separate entities in this county, especially when the city of Omaha is literally less than 6 miles from the Saunders county line.
