Fireworks are illegal in Omaha -but the city does not enforce this ban. I don't mind if folks want to light 'em off on the fourth -but I find it very disrepectful for them to have personal fireworks shows at 10:30 pm 5 days BEFORE the holiday. ( I have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old who wake up scared!!! -- Plus I work weekends and need some sleep myself!) What would you do about such inconsiderate people living down the block from you ?

JessesJames,

Yeah, I always thought Omaha had a ban. Lincoln does and its enforced. I just made the move to Omaha over the weekend and was really surprised with all the fireworks. Like you, I don't mind them on the 4th or even the day before and after, but its still June!

I remember one year going to Rosenblatt Stadium for the fireworks and there were individual fireworks going off all over the place, sometimes right in front of the police who did nothing!

Pittnurse,

Yeah, I went Rosenblatt's display last year. It was practically chaos! Roman candles being shot all over the place and the police just watching. I actually couldn't believe it because the housing is very tight in there and the hot embers were definitely falling on or near houses. Pretty crazy. We had a 5 year old with us and I was actually very worried about his safety. Things were just being shot all over and I was just waiting for something to hit one of us. My fiancee and I agreed that that would be our first and only trip to the Rosenblatt display.

Its kind of funny because when I grew up I remember having roman candle fights...didn't seem so insane back then...old age I guess.

Ya, getting old is no fun! As a nurse, I get concerned about injuries from fireworks now. When I was a kid? Ha! It was popular where I lived to go to Ohio or even Canada to purchase fireworks, as they were illegal in Pennsylvania. DH tells me it used to be very difficult to obtain Roman Candles, etc in the Omaha area when he was a boy. But that scene at Rosenblatt was wild. Must be some "selective enforecement" policy.

Default Fireworks in the Omaha Area

I'm trying to find out when the fireworks are in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area. We'll be traveling through from Texas to Minnesota and thought we could see a good show.

See above. Rosenblatt Stadium usually has fireworks after a baseball game.

If you are referring to 4th of July fireworks, there are fireworks displays in different areas. Ralston's usually starts around 9:30 - 10:00 PM... Harrah's (in Council Bluffs) usually has fireworks as well. There are others in the area, too.

This Friday evening in Papillion is a great public firework show as part of Papillion Days. (http://www.egovlink.com/public_documents300/papillion/published_documents/Papillion%20Community%20Foundation/Schedule%20of%20events%20bochure%202008%20updated% 206-3-08.pdf - broken link)

fyi... Fireworks are legal in Papillion.. and we have fun with them... about 10 places around town to buy them - and the nice thing is all but about 1 or 2 of the tents have the profits go to local not-for-profits... love my fireworks and glad to put up with them for the 10 days they are legal.
