Omaha Nebraska Real Estate, Home Values, Relocation, School, Jobs, Income & Sex Offender Info

For everyone that thinks that our property taxes are too high, go to about the middle of the page. This graph shows that it's about 1/3 of the rest of the nations.

Now, I know this is *one* site, so take it how you want to. Just thought I would put it out there.

Seeing that we have the highest property tax rate in the midwest really makes me suspect. How can we not be making it on that? How is it we are always coming up short? There must be a major money leak somewhere that is draining us, we should be able to fix roads and pay salleries on that.

The leak is corruption in the police and fire departments. Everybody knows it but the city continues to play pattycake with them.

Nope. The real reason your property taxes are the highest in the Midwest is that Omaha provides the best tax incentives (tax breaks) for businesses and corporations to locate and operate here. The city and its surrounding communities have to pick up the slack by jacking up things like property taxes.

Part of the reason for the high tax levy is the fact that Omaha is very cheap for housing. While other cities are lower, Omaha is on the cheep end. To make up for that the tax levy has to be higher as services still cost about the same. Though I am sure other factors also come into play here.

Hearing about the huge fire dept. fiasco makes me think that I was right on those money leaks. I get slightly sick thinking about how much they and police dept have stolen from us over the years.
