Default Papillion-La Vista School District’s annual Military Family Appreciation Festival deserves a salute!

quote:

Count Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin Williams among the people who think the Papillion-La Vista School District’s annual Military Family Appreciation Festival deserves a salute.

“It’s an outstanding event,” Williams said. “I don’t think I have ever been to another community that takes care of families like they do here.”

Williams, his wife, Lisa, and their three children — Kirsten, 10, Brooke, 7, and Grant, 5, — were among over 600 members of military families attending the three-hour festival at Papillion-La Vista High School.

School district staff members and students helped with a variety of free activities, from inflatable bounce houses to sittings for family portraits. Others included a golf putting challenge, a football throw, face painting, a lollipop pull, a petting zoo and a basketball toss.

“There is so much going on here, and they are all fun activities,” Lisa Williams said. “I was also very impressed with all of the educational booths that told us about services for (military) families.”

The highlight of the day was the announcement of a scholarship to honor the memory of Army 1st Lt. Mark Noziska, a 2004 graduate of Papillion-La Vista High School. Noziska died after his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb Aug. 30 in Afghanistan.
