You can't really count last winter as typical in Omaha-- it was actually the snowiest on record in the last 60 years! There was so much snow, there was no place to put any more, so it was a huge MESS. This year is bound to be easier.

If you're staying downtown, the basement of the Brandeis has a nice food court weekdays for lunch. I mention it because as a newcomer, sometimes it can be hard to find affordable food downtown for just one person. Most of the restaurants in the Old Market cater to multiple people in a group, spending $20/person. There's also a nice grocery store on 15th/Howard where you can grab groceries.
