Default marketing and PR in Omaha

Hi there. I looked in the local phone book. There are a dozen or so marketing research firms, 15 or more marketing consultant firms and about that many public relations firms. There are quite a few more business brokers and consultants.
Omaha is a growing city with a world class health care system and is a center for transportation (UPRR), agriculture (Con-Agra), insurance (Mutual of Omaha) and military (SAC). Our phone system is second to none partly due to the needs of SAC and we have a large number of telemarketing businesses because of that and also because we have no accent so people everywhere can understand us, although not always the other way around.
People are friendly, taxes are too high.

High taxes in Nebraska? Please elaborate on this. I thought Massachusetts held the record for high taxes, and was looking forward to a break. Also, is there one company that provides DSL, local/long distance phone and cable?

state tax in NE is at 7% which is high for the midwest especially when IA is 1-1 1/2 percent lower. now its not close to MA's taxes but our wages arent as high either.
Cox Cable offers, cable, internet service and phone. Qwest is a phone co. im sure they offer internet also but dont know for sure.
hope that helps!

There is a LOT of underemplyment in Omaha and all of Nebraska.

Also, Nebraska is extremely consimer unfriendly with a pro-business attitude that harms the citizenry.

When Cargill opened a plant just north of Omaha the Washington County taxpayers were forced to dig deep and help build the infrastructure for the plant.

The influx of executive-types and skilled workers caused housing prices to rise, and, due to increased valuation, the already-high property tax rose, to the point that some of the long-time-resident working poor had to move out of the town of Blair.

The tremendous amount of truck traffic down the main business street has resulted in one child being run over, the breakdown of the paving the taxpayer continuously pays to repair, and a decrease in the quality of life.

Businesses closed as folks feared to park where the BIG trucks roared by constantly. Taxpayer money was spent to "revitalize" downtown with the typical stupid add-ons that, time after time in a multitude of towns, never works.

Oh yes. Let the common folk pay and pay and pay the corporate welfare..... in this case a privately-owned firm valued in the billions of dollars.

Research over the years has proven the taxpayer NEVER gains back the taxes paid from the wages the new firm brings to an area.

So, come to Nebraska if you are a BIG firm wanting taxpayer hand-outs and tax breaks.

Sadly, the state government refuses to inform the citizenry the amount and duration of tax breaks given to incoming firms.

Every year a horde of "contractors" from other states swoop in to bilk the people of Nebrasks. Yah' see... it's buyer beware.... even of the scammers are so professional they can evade the closest scrutiny, making all appear okay..... until the scam is complete. Nebraska does little to nothing to stop the outside scammer.... they're "business folk," yah' know... so leave them alone!!!!!

Look around and see how many cities across the USA post or offer to the public in some manner crime rates for a city in total AND where in the city those crimes occur. Very for a newcomer in determining the safest place to live. Omaha Police and other governmental entities believe you have no right to that info, despite your paying for it!!!!!

The socio-cultural attitude of this area, the predominant one, hearkens back to the early German immigrants who view authority as something to be obeyed, even if that authority has not earned the privelege. You have to live here awhile without being acculturated here to see how bizarre this place is. Of course, the indiginous folk would howl in outrage but.... they can not "see" themselves and how perverted their views are.

If fascism ever breaks out in the USA I believe it will be in Nebraska and nearby states.

A PhD candidate in sociology could have a field day writing a thesis on the folkways, mores and general attitudes of the average native Nebraskan. THere is a weird psychology present in the natives that is, in many ways, quite scary.

Sure, c'mon over. Watch the babbling buffoons wander through life, obeying those above them, obeying their masters with nary a trace of standing up for freedom or basic civil rights.

Wow BigRed It sounds like you truly hate the state. Have you given thought to moving elsewhere? Maybe somewhere where there are intelligent beings and not neanderthals? Im native to Nebraska and I dont believe I have the outlook, Lack of intelligence or small-mindedness that you say all native nebraskans have. I dont blindly follow anyone. You can find these types of attitudes anywhere on earth. It didnt start in nebraska and it didnt end there.

I stand by my opinions and apparently I was writing of generalities.

Your reply is indicative to me of the inability of folks raised in Nebraska to "see" themselves.

From an earliest age the yearly Nebraska visits of 2 weeks duration along with 10 years living here has allowed me to observe the strange folkways, mores and other aspects of the general Nebraska culture.

Your defensiveness is natural and is to be expected but is not based upon critical thinking.

Despite the spelling errors introduced by speedy typing and no desire to spell check I assure you that my three college degrees and time spent in many different states as well as several foreign countries gives me a "world view" to observe Nebraskans in a manner the TYPICAL nebraskan is unable to do.

I do not have the time nor space to write a critical thesis worthy of peer review about the general subject/topic mentioned in my post. It will have to suffice that it is ONE person's opinion that should not be dismissed out-of-hand willy nilly due to knee-jerk reactionism and defensiveness.

Well you definately live up to your name . As for being defensive, I wasnt, I was stating facts not an opinion. I have lived all over the US and I am currently living overseas and honestly you are the perfect portrait of what you say Nebraskans are. I think you are projecting your own character flaws onto the people around you who obviously tell you what they think about your small-minded and prejudiced opinions that really dont amount to more than a pile of BS being spewn by an anally retentive person.

Default OMAHA is a business mecca

Gallup is a fantastic employer... bit tricky to get a job there - but the facilities are awesome.... including private daycare from birth to age 6 on site at the Riverfront... those are the perks that count!

My first reaction to Big Freds Idiot was "Welcome to America". And then, sadly, I continued to read...... and read...... and read some more. I've been blue, living in a red state. Noticed a difference in the mentality in "some" of the people here.... But to blanket the whole state with your "opinion" is just as rediculous as what you accuse them of being.

I am not originally from this state......born and raised on the west coast, so I can say it's a little different. But, why would you stay ten years in a place that you obviously don't like? That's just as ignorant as you have accused the natives of being.

I'm not going to spell check this, it's 5am and frankly, I don't give a **** if it's right or not, I'm tired. So have a field day Big Fred! BTW..... there is new research being done for people who suffer from NPD (Narcississtic Personality Disorder).

S*

P.S. Move away from your comfort zone and give someone a HUG* today!
