I have two young children, 4 and 6, and was wondering if there are any good areas to take them sledding in Omaha. Near the Rockbrook area would be preferred. It doesn't have to be a huge hill, just something they aren't going to go too fast and smack into a tree that happens to be in the middle of the area.

I always enjoyed sledding the hill that Nathan Hale Jr. High School sits on. It's located on 6143 Whitmore Street. Enjoy!

I see a lot of kids sledding at St. Roberts on 120th and Pacific.

While this topic is up, what kind of snow is the best snow to go sledding on?

A thin layer of fresh powder over hard packed snow.

We ended up going to the Westside Career Center off 108th. Just a short walk for us. Not too busy, but a decent hill for the kids.

I agree the powdery snow over the packed snow is the best for sledding, definitely for skiing.

When can I expect the snow that we have on the ground to get like that?
