Why aren't you interested in our replys after all we have to read your "educational" literature here. Why aren't you working as a consultant for the City of Lincoln or Omaha? Maybe even for the State of Nebraska? After all you seem to have the answers to the problems of Lincoln and Omaha. Share your vast intelligence with those in position to make Nebraska better. Why are you wasting your time here rplying to all of us who are below your superior intelligence. After all we are just stating our opinions to your posts as well even if it is comparing one town with another town. We don't have to agree with you on everything that you put up.

I will agree with you that a beltway is needed in Lincoln in order to get some of the truck traffic off the streets. Lincoln will have it in the future. A beltway will help bring in corporations, but Lincoln already has several at this time. A beltway just might help these expand. As for me I think that I will just continue driving on the streets of Lincoln as I just don't seem to be in a big hurry in my life like others seem to be on the freeway. I like to smell the roses of life myself.

I also feel as if the former Mayor of Lincoln was more against bringing in large corporations into Lincoln. She was in office when Gallup tried to expand, but she did not see it in HER OWN PERSONAL VISION FOR LINCOLN. She wanted a downtown area that looked good. She wanted more office space for what no one ever really knew. Now she is gone let's see how the new Mayor will try to attract new business and corporations to Lincoln. Omaha is more progressive in this issue than Lincoln was under the former Mayor.

As for people who don't like the Huskers in Lincoln you would be surprised to find that there are more Husker haters in Lincoln than you think.

I am interested in reading your reply.

I almost forgot one thing. They are in the process of expanding I-80 to six lanes between Omaha and Lincoln. They are now looking at making I-80 six lanes all the way to York in the future as well. This will be nice for getting more large corporations into the Lincoln area as well. All of this will take time to get done.

I agree with kosnebbear. Dont be thick skulled Steve. Anyway, thats interesting about the beltway around Lincoln. At least there going to build it around town and not thru town. Yes, governments did build freeways through citys in the name of progress, but was it necessarily the right thing to do? When they did this they got rid of much of the mass transit system to such as street trolleys (at least in larger cities). Would we be better off today with more mass transit options in our metro cities that would allow for more dense development? Or do we like sitting in our cars on the freeway? I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you Isaysos, I hate freeways and sitting there not going any where. Guess I got that feeling dealing with the freeways of California.

Oh yeah, tell me about it! So-Cal traffic puts the traffic in the Twin Cities to shame. That what you get when you build a metro area that is completly dependent of freeways though.

I hope that they do not bring a true freeway into Lincoln as it will ruin the city. A beltway around Lincoln is okay and they will begin building it very soon. This will help Lincoln much better than any nasty freeway going through Lincoln.

As for the California freeways if given a chance to get someplace I always took a side road. You get to see more than you could ever see on a freeway.

lol i read some of my previous posts and yes i have to agree I am a little hardheaded about having to be right. sometimes i dont realize Im doing it I guess. anyway you mentioned the i-80 corridor between omaha n lincoln. Im curious why development between omaha and lincoln is almost non Existent? Maybe Im out of the loop but I havnt really noticed anything. It would seem anywhere else in the US would be going crazy with development with 2 cities such as ours so close together and linked by an interstate which spans the entire us. any thoughts or info?

You know what I don't know either. Maybe someday it will happen, but I do not think that it will happen in my life time. I do know that there has been a study group doing work on building a amusement park somewhere between Omaha and Lincoln. Disney Cooperation is helping them with this study. They have been looking at an area near the Platte River as these parks need a lot of water to operate with. At this location there is always water in the Platte River and the need for water for irrigation from this point to the Missouri river is very low. Maybe if they get this in this will help develope the I-80 corridor between Lincoln and Omaha. Once again only time will tell. As for the Interstate connecting two cities that run across the entire state well this is want a interstate does in every state and is not something that only has happened in Nebraska.

There is an active commission that is trying to insure logical development of the corridor.

Nebraska Innovation Zone Commission (or I-80 Commission)

You are right about this getting off track.

As for which city to live in that is up to you and your husband to decide. If it was a choice that I would have to make I would look at a smaller community around Omaha or Lincoln where to live. You would be able to enjoy everything about either city, yet have a quiet community away from traffic. It would be a much better place to raise children. Homes could be cheaper which could get you a bigger home and land with it as well. Taxes would be less as well in places. No one knows what you and your husband really like and dislike.

Thank you so much kosnebbear.
I deleted that post b/c it seemed alittle uptight or something. I didn't want to come off as mean or anything.
Yeah, I've been thinking about living in a smaller town outside of either city, but I don't know. I've never lived in a small town, so I'm nervous about if I would like it or not.
I thought about Papillion, but again, I would have to really look into it. I just wanted to know what people liked more. The pros and cons of each city.
I'm alittle one-sided, having never lived in Omaha.
Thanks again!
