I might be moving to Omaha in a couple months for a new job.

Should that happen I'm going to need to buy a new vehicle. I've been putting this off for a couple years now. My preference is for a Toyota truck or SUV. Since I'm unfamiliar with Nebraska laws, I was hoping somebody could help me out here:

1. How much can I expect to pay for licensing fees and sales tax, is it calculated on a percentage basis or is it tiered depending on vehicle type or other factors? Figure $25,000 vehicle cost.

2. Do they calculate sales tax based on where you live, or where the dealership is located? Any suggestions or loopholes I should know about?

3. Does anybody have good or bad experiences with Toyota dealers in the area?

Thanks!

Without a trade in the whole $25,000 will be subject to state and city sales taxes.
I'm not sure of Omaha's sales tax but expect 6.5% to 7%.
So sales tax of 7% x $25,000 = $1,750.-00
Then you will have a $50 wheel tax plus other licensing fees that will probably be another $600.00 so just a W.A.G on my part would be around $2,400.00.
Like I said just a guess. but I'll bet it is close.

I presume a trade-in offsets the purchase price that is taxed? Yes/no?

Its 7% of the vehicle cost.

Its tax based on where you live, but i'm pretty sure nebraska is all 7%? I could be wrong.

Yes the taxable amount is what was paid above the trade in.
