Wrestling won their 3rd straight national championship LAST night and are told today they don't have a program anymore tough news.

There is a rally for the wrestling team at 5 P.M. at UNO today.

What's the big draw to be Div. 1 if you don't even have a football team?

money from what?
I would suspect that UNL had more of an effect on UNO quiting football then money. NO way UNL wants to compete against another Div. 1 team in the state for walk-on and even scholarship players.

Stop losing the money from football. And they are hoping to make basketball a revenue making sport to join hockey. UNO wouldn't have an athletic department by the end of the decade if they took football up to D1 it simply lost too much money.

UNO is basically trying to be another Creighton with having two sports make money to support the rest. UNO's in theory will be hockey and basketball.

I doubt UNL had anything to do with it. UNO has almost no prestige in Football. And the Summit League is not exactly a major league for football either. UNL would lose next to no one to UNO. But Wrestling sure is a shame.

I understand dumping the football program but why wrestling? Since they are, you know, winning and all. I hope it works out.

Title IX states that for every wrestling scholarship given, they have to give a scholly in a women's sport. Not only is wrestling not self-supporting, but it would cost yet MORE money in women's scholarships as well. Bottom line is that it just costs too much.

Probably because having a bunch of boys rolling around ontop each other looks a little gay.
