But when she went into her kitchen to get the water, he reached for her billfold. Novacek said she could see his reflection in the window of her microwave, so she turned around, said, “Oh, no, you don’t!” and took it back.

He had managed to grab a bill from it, so he ran out.

How much did he get?

$1 billion, in play money.

It probably wasn't too smart to let a complete stranger into their house either. At least nobody was hurt.

OK, this begs the question - what was a 79 year old woman doing with play money?
Had to ask...

Maybe she's on the Ron Paul bandwagon and has all her money tied up in gold in anticipation of the fiat currency system apocalypse.

That reminds me... During the last recession (late 70's early 80's) I had a friend like that. He bought as many gold Krugerrands as he could, and the price kept climbing. He kept buying. He kept telling me to sink my money in it too. I told him, "I have chickens. You have Krugerrands. I can eat the eggs, raise more chickens, eat the chickens. You can't eat your gold. IF I decide to trade you chickens or eggs for Krugerrands, I set the price based on YOUR needs... not mine." Then the bottom fell out of the gold market.

A year later, we were on the phone, and I asked him how his gold was doing. He hung up on me, and we never spoke again.

I'll never understand why people think that having gold is more important than having (not buying) what you need. If the dollar turns into "play money" - what makes them think gold will be a viable commodity - when it is those with the commodities who will set the price?

You can buy the 1 billion in play money off ebay. As for the gold, he should have kept that. Same thing now with silver.
