37th and Dodge is a safe area, but I wouldn't want to live right on Dodge - it is a very busy street. The area is home to a historic mansion district on 38th Street, an all girls catholic academy, Omaha's largest mixed use development, and many Creighton students. The claims that the area is unsafe are laughable and are coming from people, who I would guess, have never lived in and are scared of urban areas. You'll do just fine. Also, I have a friend who lives on 39th and Dodge and does not own a car. He moved to the area because it is one of the few in Omaha where you can live without a car. That being said, Omaha has a terrible public transportation system and support for expanding public transit is often met with hostility.

I just wanted to thank everyone so much for all the comments. They were realistic, informational and helpful.

I visited Omaha again today (also visited Saturday, right before I started this thread). Today's visit, along with what everyone has said here, as made me feel positively about my decision.

Thanks so much.
