Appreciate it
Yeah, Gladiator, I'm with you.

As a newbie here, it really kind of sucks that this group of jackals has jumped on everyone who's actually answered the question that the OP asked.

To someone that doesn't know the personalities involved here, it really perfectly proves MountainMen's point about the inferiority complex.

And it's REALLY unattractive. So for people who think they're keeping folks from getting "bad ideas" about Omaha... the bad ideas are YOU.

So, why do you think you DESERVE a $25/hr job? What do you bring to the table? What sort of education and experience do you have?

But your an admitted criminal. NO business is going to take on that kind of liability, not for a good paying job (which Omaha has a lot of BTW for those with clean criminal records and an education). You want to blame the Omaha area as a whole for your problems when in fact it is your criminal history that is preventing you from finding employment. Obviously after 9 years it has to be something rather severe to still be causing employment problems. I do feel for you but you have to stop blaming others for a problem that you ultimately caused.

Yes I have a record, but that is not the only thing I am. As mentioned before, I've been successfully employed 7 of the last 9 years and just waiting for the economy to prosper again. I know most of the positions that I've interviewed for, are internal promotions. The rescinded job offers is something I've dealth with. Some companies believe you've done your time for the crime and keep personal issues out the professional working arena. So with that being said, great working experience and great education will keep my chin up, as I keep the disbelievers at arms length...

I'm not blaming Omaha for my unemployment, just a select few companies that I dont agree with there job offer policies. They just see a record on the background report and don't ask any questions, just take advserse action. I gave the poster IMHO, that college graduates coming out college in my field get offered $3 above minimum wage for what the NE Dept Labor considers a hot job market. Go Figure. Time for employers to anty up or lose top graduates to other higher paying markets.

And I agree, You are more than just your record. But an employer, who gets dozens of job applications, has to make the best choice for their company. Even a highly skilled worker will get tossed aside for a lesser skilled or experienced worker if they have a criminal record and the others do not. What you will likely have to do it take an entry level job in your desired company, even if it is work you don't want, and then move up the chain. What you need to do is build trust, and that is something that takes time. Any kind of criminal record will create a obstacle to forming trust, hence the difficulties thus far.

My god, I have to stop attending these seminars with my coworkers. I am starting to sound just like one of the speakers .

The issue isn't Omaha. The issue is YOU. I'm not saying that to be holier than thou, but the simple fact of the matter is that you have a criminal record, presumably a serious one and that is a substantial roadblock (placed there by you) to getting gainful employment and now you're crying foul because the world isn't just overlooking it. Moreover, SCGranny told you how you could help to remedy this issue and you had an excuse for that too.

Look, I'm sure you're a good guy with alot to offer a company and I do agree that those with records get jerked around more they necessary in the hiring process but that is simply the world we live in and something certainly not limited to Omaha. If you want to clear this hurdle YOU have to make the needed sacrifices to show these companies that you are a trustworthy individual. Sitting here pouting on a discussion forum isn't going to solve your problem.

Good luck.
