Apparently, it's made national news. Last I heard it was taken offline for cleaning and not brought back online, so there is no danger.

There was a small fire in an electrical room due to a short which caused a temporary loss of power to cooling pumps for the plant's spent fuel pools. Fort Calhoun was shut down for refueling. Power was restored to the pumps within a few hours.

I don't know if this incident has been picked up nationally so much as some conspiracy theorist group is trying to say that Fort Calhoun is turning into Fukushima. If you read the Nuclear Regulatory Commission incident report (linked below - search for Fort Calhoun) the loss of power was only for a few hours and well below any danger threshold. But I'm sure that they would counter that the government is lying to us, or something like that.

I especially like how they list it as a "Level 4 Emergency" in the headline for that YouTube video.

I got a kick out of it. We're in Omaha and had heard nothing of it except a news report in passing saying it was offline anyway. Of course...I watch Channel 6, which people on this board seem to love...

If you think we have heard nothing of it you need to watch the news more often . KETV was covering the plant quite well, almost to the point I wish it would not. Just seemed to be stirring up the anti-nuclear power crowd more than I like. As for channel 6, I hope that's sarcasm.

I watch 6 News in the morning for the weather report as I get ready for work. They re-broadcast on channel 4. Most of my other news I get off he internet.

Honestly...I can't stand 7 or 3. Just something about them...the newscasters seem so fake.

I got a kick out of people saying it was a conspiracy because the MSM wasn't talking about it. Meanwhile, when I did a google search for news, a bunch of youtube videos with Brian Williams' report from NBC on the power plant pop up. Does it get any more mainstream then that? I like a good conspiracy theory, but this has been bad.
