Is I-29 still closed? If so, what is the best way to get into Omaha? I have a job interview Monday morning and it seems like the routes keep changing. I normally drive up 55 to St. Louis, 70 to KC and 29 into O. Should I go from STL to Des Moines? That just seems like an epically long journey. I'm not familiar with the highway system from KC to Omaha.

What is the best way to get there?

Default Alternate Route

I ran into the same problem with I-29 returning from Omaha to KC this past weekend. The Iowa DOT recommended using Hwy 71, which if coming north on I-29, you can access from just north of St Joseph. It will connect back to I-80 at exit 60 north of Atlantic, IA. I asked some people about possibly using Hwy 75 and connecting to I-29 at Brownville (which was still open at that time ... not now), but I was informed that Hwy 75 was jammed up with interstate traffic trying to divert around the road closures.

Since Omaha is farther west then Kansas City you can stay on I70 west from KC to Topeka and go north from there on US highway 75 which goes right into Omaha.
