This may be a rather pointless question to ask, but I was wondering something. Does anyone know when the Q Street bridge over I-80 was widened? When I lived in Omaha, it was just a 2-lane bridge and the exit ramp off westbound I-80 got added in either 1989 or 1990.

I visited Omaha in 1994 and noticed the Q Street bridge was widened. Does anyone remember what year it happened?

If you have Google Earth, the old satellite photos show that it was still a two lane bridge on 3/25/93, so they had to do the widening between then and whatever time you visited in 1994. My guess is that they probably started the project shortly after that photo was taken.

I'd like to see some old satellite maps of Omaha. How do you see what you're talking about?

In Google Earth, you want to click the clock looking button and it will give you a slider that you can use to view historical imagery.

Okay, I just uploaded it. It looks pretty nice. The satellite imagery is in black and white. But other than that, it's not such a bad trip down memory lane.

It's too bad the furthest back they have for satellite imagery data is 1993. I'd like to see what Omaha looked like in the 80's. I'd like to see the I-80/I-480 interchange before they changed it to what it is now, which they started to do by the time I moved.

But I suppose what they've got is better than nothing.

I am not sure exactly which magazine it is that has a website with an archive of old pictures of Omaha since the 1860's. It might be NEBRASKA HISTORY. I am too tired right now to do a search but Google might be able to help. The Library of Congress has an online archive of almost all of the newspapers printed in the past 200+ years. Many of the old Nebraska newspapers have pictures in them. Just be prepared to lose a few weeks of spare time when you start looking at these resources. They are fantastic.

This may not be entirely accurate, but this is what the I-80/I-480 interchange looked like when I lived in Omaha.
