Hi All,

My husband is in the air force and just got orders to Offutt, moving this coming summer. I have so many questions?!

1. I really want to put my youngest in half-day kindergarten, but it looks like that is not an option for public schools. Does anyone know of any half-day kindergarten classes near the offutt area? I'm willing to pay...

2. Schools in general. I've been searching at greatschools.net and can't find any middle schools or high schools rated above a 7. So, it looks like we'll probably go the private school route for the older ones as well. Any recommendations for schools near Offutt again? We're not Catholic, but I have no problem sending my kids to a Catholic school if they will get a good education there!

3. Neighborhoods. Any recommendations? Should we consider living on-base? I've been having a difficult time finding rental houses listed online, there aren't any listed in the Omaha area on realtor.com, is there someplace else I should be looking?

Thanks!!!

I'm not sure on the school aspect so I cant help you there, my son is only 1. I personally went to Bellevue West high school and it was a fantastic school.

I would not recommend living in base housing. I lived there and they were not very nice, no carpeting and lots of bugs. Have you tried checking AHRN.com? Its a military house renting website. That's how I found my house. Other options are to check realtor websites, like Century 21 will list houses for rent through them.

Despite my username, I live here in Bellevue. To second what rezfreak said, Bellevue West is a fantastic school. I graduated there a few years ago and I feel that I got a pretty solid education. The same can be said about all Bellevue schools in my opinion. I didn't go to Bellevue for elementary school, so I can't say much for that.

Bellevue of full of pretty good neighborhoods. My favorite areas are what I consider East Bellevue (anything east of Kennedy Expressway). My favorite parts of town are Fontenelle Forest / the houses on and surrounding Bellevue Boulevard. The street actually goes cobblestone for a while... pretty cool!

I live in West Bellevue, which has newer developments and not as densely populated... more wide-open spaces.

I'm not Catholic, but I've heard good things about St. Mary's School in Olde Town and and Daniel J. Gross High School (both Catholic-affiliated).

St. Mary's and St. Matthew's are both in Bellevue----both top notch. St. Columbkille's is in Papillion, although there's a waiting list to get in. Daniel Gross Catholic High School is an excellent school on the western edge of Bellevue. As far as I know, there are no 'dangerous' neighborhoods in Sarpy County. It's really a matter of what kind of housing you like and what fits in your budget. If you're looking to buy, a typical middle class home will fall in the 150k-250k range. Rents for homes are all over the map, and really vary neighborhood to neighborhood.
