Omaha has enough Fortune 500 companies that the amount of business travel alone could allow for more hotels of this size down in the Old Market area.

I don't think some people realize how many people come here for meetings at these companies headquarters.

BTW this broke ground and there is a crane on site. I can't wait for this to rise over the Old Market!

Did you notice how fast the new mixed use development at 12th & Howard has gone up. It looks to be at full height and now just needs the exterior/interior work.

I love Hyatt Hotels. I'm glad Omaha is getting one!

Should be a great addition, arguably will be the best hotel location in the city. And the best part is it is replacing what has been an empty pit for the better part of a decade in the Old Market.

While nice, I still would much rather see apartments/condos in the old market area. Hotel rooms really don't add much to the area, population wise. This is a project I would have rather seen moved up closer to the stadium, perhaps in the open pit to the west. But in the end it is better than another parking lot or garage, of which Omaha has FAR too many of already.

I think there are tons of hotels around the stadium though with more on their way. If you remember Hyatt was originally going to take 6 floors of the Wallstreet Tower project. This scale of project wouldn't have really worked on the empty lot north of the UP building. Only having 150 some rooms.

The city has been looking for a hotel at this location for 10 years now. I think they wanted another bookend hotel for the Old Market. I would prefer condo/apartments as well, but in this market I am not going to look down on a hotel project of this caliber for a permanent residence project that could of been another long wait.

It's interesting that Omaha can seem more progressive than Kansas City in regard to urban development. I'm not sure if it's true or if Omaha seems that way because all of their urban development is focused in a much smaller area versus Kansas City's urban development spreadout amongst a much larger core and multiple major urban nodes. But congrats to Omaha. Their downtown has come a LONG way in the past decade or so and it's been nice to see.

To me, KC, although much larger, is somewhat stagnant right now when it comes to development. You have more than us, but we're gaining on you
