Yeah, they need to make people get insurance for bicycles too. I mean, they're just as dangerous as cars. Also seat belts. I think bicycles should also have titles of ownership just like a car, you know, so they can enforce the tax and whatnot.

How much damage does a 200 lb cyclist riding a 20 pound bike on a road cause? Not even close to how much damage a 200 lb man driving a Suburban on the roads causes. Bottom line, I pay the same wheel tax to drive my car and the same Omaha taxes for road repairs as you. When I ride my bike on the road I cause much less damage per mile than you in your car. Therefore I am actually saving the city money by riding my bike. Adding bike lanes leads to more bike commuters, leading to less auto traffic on roads (less damage to roads) and many other "good" (aka money saving) things.

Oh I assumed from the title that it was a done deal. Is there any estimation on when it will be done?

No official completion date. I would suspect by spring 2013.

It goes before the City Council on the 3rd. Hopefully can get started this summer.

2014 is the expected start date now, if the city council approves, and they likely will.
