I've lived in the Omaha area for several years but never really paid attention to the school districts until recently when my wife and I had a child. Some interesting things have come up now that we're looking for a house. Was wondering if somebody could shed some light on these questions.
We looked at some houses in Bellevue that they actually fall into the Omaha School district (Bryan H.S area). Just out of sheer curiousity, how does this work? Since the house is in Bellevue all my taxes I would naturally assume go to the Bellevue school district? So essentially I would have zero say in matters with the school my son would be attending (inability to vote on school board members, ect).
Also, I've noticed in Millard that large sections of that area are in Sarpy County yet have Omaha addresses and the school district is Millard? Can somebody explain to me what the rationale is for all this?
I may be old fashioned or maybe it's just growing up on the east coast where your taxes and your kids go to the schools in the city you live in, but this is somewhat confusing. I sorta like to know where my taxes are going.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

School districts have separate taxes from the city. And the area of MPS that is in Sarpy is actually extremely close to Old Town Millard, so thats why it ended up like that because there was no city closer.
