Im sorry if this has been asked. I've seen questions about ABA, etc. I am wondering if anyone had any experiences with the special education system in the schools there (good? Bad?) and if they can recommend any particular district. We are going to be moving to the area soon with two children with needs and where we are currently inclusion does not seem to be a priority. I'm looking for a school that really understands least restrictive environment.

I also want to know if Nebraska has any laws regarding health insurance coverage for Autism.

Thanks so much!

I've been doing some research into it as I plan on Moving to Omaha in 6 months or so, and So far I've found the following things.

From Easter Seals
2011 State Autism Profiles: Nebraska - Easter Seals

A Private Autism School.
Welcome to Madonna School
The School is in Omaha, it seems to be pretty good and it's only about 4K per year, but they also do financial aid and have a scholarship if you are so inclined.

According to Nebraska Rule 51 they have to provide care adequate to any IEP that was in place before the child moved and then reevaluate as per guidelines, they have to provide assistive devices (like Ipads etc) for class, and if you are unsatisfied you can sue the district to get funds moved to a private program, but you have to prove that the education was adequate for you child.

If anyone who actually has a kid with autism and is currently in Omaha could give a line that would be great.

Natural Therapy has a new pediatric autism program that is family friendly and will help with support services. They will help support your childs needs within the school and consult to outside agencies (schools, etc). They may be a great resource to help you transition to the area. They provide great therapy services for children with autism and their families! Give them a call at 402-814-1300 or check out their website at Natural Therapy.
