I am possibly relocating to Omaha in a few months and I'm trying to find affordable, safe areas to find a rental. I would prefer renting a duplex or house instead of an apartment. My new job would be in zip code 68122. I was trying to find rentals north of Omaha but couldn't seem to find anything besides in Blair, NE...which is 20 miles one way. Irvington Heights apartments looked nice but I don't qualify for low income. I would like to spend around $800 for rent/utilities. Any ideas of where to search or not search would be helpful. I've read a lot about how unsafe north Omaha is, but I know that every city has safe/unsafe areas. I've been using CrimeMapping.com and every area I look at seems full of crime. I've been using Craigslist too but some don't specify exact location so its hard to pinpoint crime area. Do I just need to look south of Omaha and drive 20 miles one way?
thank you

Yes, more fear-mongering is just what we need.

Omaha is one of the safest large cities in the united states. A 'high crime' area of Omaha would be about the safest area of many large cities.

Now 68122 is a HUGE, mainly rural area. If this business is on the south end then you have many options for housing just to the south of that area. If it's in the center or to the north, good luck with any kind of reasonable commute. This is close the the wealthier part of town so rents will be high.

Have you considered checking out 68164? It looks to be a fairly short commute to 68122. I've been checking out rentals in the area, and the 68164 zip appears to have a few options in your price range.
