The crime happening in Downtown is usually of the petty nature and happens during the time when the nightlife is there. As with basically all of Omaha, it is very safe unless you're involved in drug and gang activity.

The only way to be truly safe in Omaha is to live in the cornfields, and even then I'm not so sure. People searching for safety in a city with an absentee police force is why we have out-of-control sprawl.
