I admit she has made mistakes and I applaud that she got a earful from North Omaha folks. North Omaha is often neglected or shunned by city leaders (that includes some who claim to represent North Omaha

(coughs, Tanya Cook and Ben Gray who need to be more involved in North Omaha

I also think Festersen (side note) needs to drop the vanity act and start being more a city leader than someone with a ego problem.

as for McDonnell and LeClair, they need to quit the bully tactics.

Yes, the whole OFD contract thing has been a mess for years and yes Stothert and others have made some blunders at handling it, but McDonnell and Le Clair 's mean-spirited attitude

and bully like attitude towards those who dont agree with them 100 percent on things hasnt made them look any better than Stothert.

and not just McDonnell and LeClair, we have folks on both sides politically who need to drop the bully attitude and moderate and be more humble when in public.

Humility is something lost by folks on both sides in Omaha.
Why no comment about the gag order or blatantly lying to the people in North Omaha about growing up in the "inner city"? I was curious about your reactions to that.

LeClair is the Fire Union President. In that role, he is only accountable to the firefighters who elected him to serve in that positions and has no legal or ethical duty to act in the citizen's best interest, so we can leave him out of this discussion. He's also not Mayor, so not sure why you brought him up either.

I'd be curious to know how you feel McDonnell is a bully here? Stothert is the one who has been publicly gunning for him since the day she was elected to city council and has on multiple times accused him of all sorts of failures as Fire Chief. Literally the day she gets sworn in, she issues a gag order on him that prevents him from speaking to the media about the budget, but meanwhile she gets to say whatever she wants about him to the media.

No reasonable person could construe that as McDonnell being a bully. Sorry.

as someone who lives in North Omaha a

nd is a Omaha North high grad and proud of it

Upvoting Roman - omaha north high class of 1998 rules i definitely agree & http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3uxtm2/

I am angry Jean pulled a Ergun Caner as it's called (see) FBC Jax Watchdogs: Paula Deen Gets Fired, Ergun Caner Keeps Getting Hired - Even as He Continues to Advance Ethnic and Racial Stereotypes in the Pulpit (for info on him)

and lied about her background, but I am not surprised either.

we have too many politicians and folks in the media and folks like Ergun Caner who flat out lie about their background,

and that is why there is a need for bloggers and others who expose liars in positions of power.

Stothert I think was thinking no one would bother to check on it, or that folks are idiots, and that maybe a bigger problem

too many people in west omaha think the rest of the city is gullible to believe anything.

Look, I applaud those who busted her for lying about her background, but I am more troubled at the lack of research many folks do.

There needs to be more people educating themselves and making sure they wont be so gullible.

If people bothered to check things (like those who exposed Stothert for lying) maybe we wouldnt have so many corrupt leaders (whether they be in politics, or the pulpits) or in the media

nor would we have city leaders who treat everyone like their stupid.

Btw, my credo is: Check, re-check, and check again (aka the Jay Leno Philosophy on research)

I simply can't believe Stothert had the audacity to toss out such a blatant lie to those people. Funny thing. I have an ex girlfriend who was from East Alton, which is literally less than 2 miles from Wood River, and actually graduated from the same high school as Stothert. Consequently, I spent some time there and to call Wood River "inner city" is a complete and total joke.

I'm not really surprised by her lying, just the brazenness of the way she did it. It's like she gave no credit to her audience to know any better.

Of course, the absurdity of it all is also shocking. Why lie and say you "grew up" in the inner city? Why not say "I spent X number of years working at an inner city hospital dealing mostly in cases involving people in poverty"? The later still makes the same point for her and is the complete truth.

She just really doesn't need to stoop to trying to compare herself to our current urban population living in poverty. All of her comments came out extremely defensive and not at all mayoral. Next time she needs to keep her cool, and maybe give a few of her plans to help fix North Omaha instead of trying to make herself "one of them." I doubt people in North Omaha would care what type of neighborhood she grew up in if she can help bring jobs to the area and lower crime in her 4 years.

How do we fix n.o.? perhaps some after school programs? more handouts? community clean up projects done by people from other neighborhoods? candle vigils and billboard messages? more money to community 'betterment' groups? economic development? midnight basketball? Bullet proof glass? ..... the glass makes sense. Waving finger and doin the chicken head bobble whilst threatening the mayor with race riots is another example that there is a sort of "problem' nobody wants to address.

What has been the outcome of any outreach to North Omaha in the past? Things like economic help or safety programs and such that I can't quite describe...
