Even if you dismiss my opinion as biased, you'd still have to account for the overwhelming respect OPD has among the law enforcement ranks.

Of course there are. Did you seriously just ask such a dumb question? For a local example, the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department was regarded as a total joke through most of the 70s 80s and early 2000s. They're better now, but not by a whole bunch. On the flip side, the Douglas County Sheriffs used to be great but fell off over the last few years.

Yea, sorry, dumb question. I suppose we all have departments we don't respect for one reason or another.

There are many of them that are not respected, even by other cops. Omaha PD is an exceptional police force though. We only had a two officers killed in the line of duty in the entire time I was on the force, which is incredible for any major metropolitan PD and a testament to the training we received.

As a retired LEO in Southern California I can say Swat Guy is spot on. Sarpy County Sheriff sucked when I was in high school in the mid 70's, Douglas was better and Omaha P.D. were the best. Yes I used to live in Nebraska until 1986.

I have a couple funny stories about Sarpy County. When my dad was 20 something, a Sarpy County Deputy caught him jay walking and figured the proper course of action was to arrest him for this. Funny part was this was before the day of double locking handcuffs, so my dad picked the lock on them and dropped them in the guy's lap as he was driving. Poor guy about had a heart attack. To their credit, one of this guy's superiors realized what a douchebag he was being at cut my dad loose before they even booked him.

Couple years later, another Sarpy County Deputy pulled my dad over for having loud exhaust on his Monte Carlo. He accused my dad of running straight pipes and refused to believe my dad when he told him the car had an OEM equivalent exhaust installed less than 90 days earlier. He got his ass chewed out real good by the judge when my dad showed up to court with not only the receipts for the repair work, but a good friend who was also a Douglas County Deputy that had just happened to be the one who gave my dad a ride to pick up his car after the work was finished.
