I travel from Indy to Omaha on a weekly basis. As a driver sitting for a few days at a truck stop in Coucil Bluffs I would like to get away. Maybe park at the Harrah's Casino parking lot and walk along the bike path to cross over the pedestrian bridge to downtown Omaha from the park. Going from there where is this Old Market? any museums? shopping? brewery pubs? I would like to take my camera as I plan on doing more sight seeing. I normally go to the AMC Star 17 but I've seen almost all the movies from Iron Man 3 to Man of Steel ready to do something different this time. Any suggestions would be great. As an outsider my perspective of the metro area has changed. I always thought Omaha was the same size as Des Moines.

Parking in Council Bluffs and walking over is a good idea. To get to the Old Market from the bridge you will follow the walking paths through Heartland of America Park, there is a large fountain in the middle of the lake that can be a cool thing to check out. The Old Market is really a window walk type place, lots of people just walk around and pop in where looks interesting. There is a brewpub called Upstream Brewery which is local then there is a chain brewpub called Rock Bottom.

Durham Heritage Museum is a good history museum near the Old Market, lots of Omaha history. The Joslyn Art Museum is Omaha's top art museum and it has free admission for the next 3 years so it would be a cheap option, it has a pretty diverse collection, but is probably a mile and a half from the Old Market.

Also if you like limited release movies at all check out Film Streams in North Downtown. They would have very different offering than AMC Star will.

I would also recommend The Hot Shops just north of the ballpark. There's also a variety of dining options.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I will check these places out and take some photos to post later. I also see there is an Anytime Fitness downtown which I am a member of. I should get plenty of workout from walking and running. I look forward to this as I will be a regular visitor from Indy.

if you like to go out and have an open mind, look up 'Omaha Loom" for events and just the regular bar, and I like going to the Max (a gay bar) as they don't care that I am Native American, anywhere else they will just as likely spit on me and try to get me thrown out anywhere else. As far as anything else, they occasionally have some cool stuff just depends on what time you come down, This July every thursday the midtown crossing 31st and dodge has a jazz concert..

If you get spit and, and thrown out of every place you go, YOU are the problem.

To the OP, do NOT go to The Loom, unless you want to be surrounded by sickos of very stripe.
