Default Benson Bunnies - History?

OK, so I grew up in Omaha and would have graduated from Benson in 1969 had we not moved to Colorado. The thing is, I hated the name, but loved the sweat shirt rabbit image of the Bunnies of old. My questions is...

Who came up with the Bunny as Benson High School's mascot and why?? A Trojan, a Pirate, Tiger, or just about anything else but a bunny would make sense to me, but then I don't know the history.

So can someone clue me in, or is the bunny of Benson to be mocked around Colorado without recourse?

I am not totally sure...but my grandfather (from Benson) swears that the hill it was built on had a ton of bunnies on it. So...Benson Bunnies

When DH gets back, I'll ask him if he knows. BTW, there are the Lambkins in Ft. Collins, CO. So don't let those Coloradans give you any guff!

got a question that is off topic but related to Benson High:

why is Omaha Benson High so bad at sports (in particular football)

I know at one time they were good at sports,

and I am not trying to pick on Omaha Benson High (I have friends who graduated from there, as well as my brothers graduated from there in 81 and 85)

but

it seems whenever I hear the HS sports news on KETV,

it is almost always Omaha Benson has lost a game (whether it be Football or any other sport

I found this article doing a search, don't know if its true or not.
JournalStar.com - Lincoln, Nebraska - Sports

Mentions some of the cool nicknames in Nebraska, although he forgot the Fairbury Jeffs and Ord Chanticleers, as someone mentioned in the comments section.

Benson has some good teams, they've had some good basketball teams. Some schools just have reputations for certains sports and its probably easier to attract kids to that sport. They seem similar to Lincoln High in that basketball seems to be the sport of choice.

benson used to be really good in sports when my dad was there. Benson used to be the top high school in the state along with Central back in the 70's. Academics and sports wise.

my brother Mike went to Benson and graduated from there in 81 and even then they had good sports teams

but now, Omaha Benson High is a joke when it comes to sports

even though I am a Omaha North high grad and I root for Omaha North when it comes to HS sports

I would love to see a day when Omaha Benson High was as good at sports as it was decades ago

I too am sadly enough a Bunny. People think this is made-up until they meet someone else who will also admit to being a BB. Now to make matters worse my two sons are "Lambkins"!!! Who does this to us and why?
