Cool Long Term citizen Looking for assistance, Anyone who may have advice please read

Born and raised here in Omaha, By all means i think Omaha is a good place to stay, but finding it almost impossible to land a Job with a good Company here in The metro area. Now in my mid twenties after working towards a Const. management degree after high school, and have been in that field for 8-10years aprox., got everything i wanted out of it, and i haven't even begone to reach my full potential yet,as a skilled tradesman and it doesn't feel good.

I have been trying to shift my career more towards working on with large equipment, at manufacturing co. trucks, and tractors and such. For whatever reason, even with referrals i have not succeeded. I work multiple jobs, usually 3 in the summer and 2 in the winter. l am involved in rental property. I left the construction industry and just kept working my two part time jobs for income. Since Omaha has the most unsteady Job market as far as construction goes.

With all that being said my question is, i guess my question is What are people in HR looking for here in Omaha? They want you to be experienced of course, but how can that possible be done if no one wants to give some one with a excellent track record when it comes to great work ethics a chance. They want to start you out at $10-$13 and hour, but with the cost of the taxes going up every 2 years. Making an honest living is almost getting to be unheard of around here. seriously

From i guy who doesn't do drugs, barely evens drinks, works 2-3 jobs, and can bring some of then best skills to a company(may not have the exact amount of expierance for my new field of interest, hek). and cannot get employed with a "established" company, Cannot no longer afford to live in Omaha?

I always told myself if i cannot afford to live in Omaha, Theres no way i can afford it anywhere else,(i think i am wrong) I got 3 properties half in my.name.. I am at a brick wall and cannot find my way around it in this town. I have opportunity to relocate to and undesirable job in Colorado next to aspen some where with paid rent for 2 years!!!!....time forgot about this town i think.

Not to mention, over qualified for a temp agency, as i found out

Looking for advice for the ""Real"" Job market here in Omaha, anyone with who wants to leave a comment please do i will read it. I am stuck. Have a good day everybody=)

In Omaha: It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Another town maybe your best bet.

Have you looked at Kiewit? You want big equipment and lots of opportunity in construction, that would seem a natural.

Weitz also has a lot of projects going on right now. I would guess they may be hiring.

You might check out Union Pacific. I see they have some jobs on thier web site that may suit you. I see they have a track laborer jobs open in Omaha, heck $17.80/hr. to start. Hard jobs, long hours, posible lots of travel. But with your backround moving up would be a big possiblity. Oh and RR retierment is hard to beat.
