Sad news. Details still emerging.

A television show crew member seriously hurt in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night has died, according to a source close to the investigation.

Omaha police said the incident began as an armed robbery at the Wendy's restaurant near 43rd and Dodge streets around 9:20 p.m.

An officer-involved shooting then occurred, according to police. Officials said the armed robbery suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A "Cops" TV show crew member was also seriously wounded and has since died, according to a source close to the investigation.

News channels reporting that the crew member was an audio technician who had been with the show for 7 years.

Yes, it's still very sad though.

That said, massive props to the OPD for once again being a kick ass police department and making sure the robber is taking a dirt nap now. Apparently, OPD responded so fast that the robber was still in the store when they arrived.

They responded quickly because they had been on a call nearby. I wouldn't call this a win, given an innocent person was killed by "friendly fire". What did they fire, like 30 rounds? It's amazing no one else was wounded or killed given he was attempting to exit out the side doors. Condolences to Mr. Dion's family. They have gotten some bad press for being a bit too "kick ass" recently.

Yea, either that robber was really good at dodging bullets, or those police had terrible aim.

That call was several blocks away and actually pulled officers out of that district. OPD was still able to get there before the robber could even exit the store. The "friendly fire" was essentially the result of the cameraman attempting to dive out of the way and into the path of bullets fired by the officer behind him. Very sad, but it's one of those "**** happens" moments.
