Omaha "off the beaten path"
I am looking for ideas for fun, artsy, cultural, ethnic, "off the beaten path" places to shop, eat and be entertained in the Omaha area. Interesting things to do, and places with local flavor in and around the OMaha neighborhoods.
Thanks in advance for your help.
(PS- I already know about Old Market)

I would recommend checking out Benson (around 60th and Maple) and South 24th St. in south Omaha (between L St. and Q St.)

Here's an idea.
I would agree with DTO Luv, Benson is a lot of fun. I recommend Espana and Jakes. My favorites! Also you can check out Omaha Review - Be a Local - Home for local reviews on places you want to check out.
-Have fun!

Omaha "off the beaten path"
I appreciate all your suggestions! (We are from Kansas City, but we have a kid going to college up in Omaha.) Thank you for sharing your favorite places with me.

I don't think west Omaha fits any of the criteria given.

If here in the summer/spring/fall there are lots of outdoor concert and art things - from downtown in the Old Market to the Suburbs like Papillion and even to the vineyard in little Springfield.

breakfast at the 11-worth cafe...with a shake. I sure wish it was still open all night though.
lunch at the bohemian cafe. go for the liver dumpling soup.
dinner at katie's. use the wine list.
if you can beat that you know omaha better than I do...

If you're in the Benson area, be sure to hit up Hartland BBQ - about 54th & Maple. Incredible stuff.
